Disney has held exploratory talks about selling ABC and TV stations to Nexstar Media Group, reports Bloomberg. The White House sent a letter to executives at US news organizations including CNN, CBS News, Fox News, the AP, The New York Times and more urging them to “ramp up” scrutiny of House Republicans “for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.” Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the White House Counsel’s Office, wrote, “Covering impeachment as a process story – Republicans say X, but the White House says Y – is a disservice to the American public who relies on the independent press to hold those in power accountable.” The letter comes after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy launched an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

STRIKE UPDATES
The WGA is not pleased with Bill Maher’s decision to bring back HBO’s “Real Time” without writers during the writers’ strike. “Bill Maher is obligated as a WGA member to follow the strike rules and not perform any writing services,” said the guild. “It is difficult to imagine how ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ can go forward without a violation of WGA strike rules taking place. WGA will be picketing this show.” Maher announced the show’s return on Wednesday, saying, “It has been five months, and it is time to bring people back to work. The writers have important issues that I sympathize with, and hope they are addressed to their satisfaction, but they are not the only people with issues, problems, and concerns.”
Drew Barrymore was dropped as host of the National Book Awards over her decision to restart her talk show during the writers’ strike. “The National Book Awards is an evening dedicated to celebrating the power of literature, and the incomparable contributions of writers to our culture,” said a statement from the National Book Foundation. “In light of the announcement that ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’ will resume production, the National Book Foundation has rescinded Ms. Barrymore’s invitation to host the 74th National Book Awards Ceremony.” Barrymore’s show is slated to return September, without written material covered by the WGA strike.
“They are not land barons in feudal times, and we are not their serfs. How dare they think we are less than an enemy camp they need to step on in their insatiable appetite for greed?”, writes SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher in the latest issue of SAG-AFTRA Magazine. Adds Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, Executive Director and Chief Negotiator, “Studio bosses have been behaving like petty tyrants rather than partners in creating great entertainment.” The actors’ strike started July 14, with no negotiations since.
On the other side, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav told attendees at an investor conference this week he is spending a lot of his time with his peers “trying to resolve [strikes] as quickly as possible. Content is the backbone of what we do. We’ve got to get back to work, and we have to find a way to get to a solution that’s fair and makes everybody feel respected and rewarded fairly. That’s the number one priority here.”

Infillion has a strong balance sheet, with differentiated products that, when integrated within the broader MediaMath ecosystem, can drive real value for our customers.”
