The debut of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead killed it Sunday, delivering 10.1 million Live+SD viewers, the best cable series launch ever in total viewers and all key demos, including 6.3 million A18-49. “It is increasingly difficult to evaluate a show’s success on night one,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC and SundanceTV. “However, we are releasing these live/same day ratings because Fear the Walking Dead delivered record-breaking numbers that are all the more special in this era of time-shifted viewing and audience fragmentation.” Fear’s lead-in, a Talking Dead preview of season six of The Walking Dead, drew 4.2 million viewers, 2.5 million A18-49.
In addition to George Clooney and Jeb Bush, guests for Stephen Colbert’s first week as host of The Late Show include Scarlett Johansson, Amy Schumer, Stephen King, Tesla Motors and Space X CEO Elon Musk and Uber CEO Travis Kalanick. Kendrick Lamar, Toby Keith and Troubled Waters will serve up music, starting Tuesday, September 8 on CBS.
Jeb Bush is pretty much assured a spot at CNN’s GOP debate, taking place Wednesday, September 16, but presidential hopeful Chris Christie is on the bubble. Taking a seat on NBC’s Tonight Show on Monday, August 31 should hike Christie’s profile. His last visit to Jimmy Fallon earned the New Jersey governor 9 million YouTube views, for their “Evolution of Dad Dancing” video.
Chief content officer Erin McPherson and SVP of marketing Jeremy Welt are out at Makers Studios, reports VideoInk. Both joined the company before its acquisition by Disney last year.
Both kids 2-11 and teens 12-17 are watching more time-shifted television, according to a new report from Nielsen. But while VOD may be taking a slice from traditional TV time for teens, the tots’ live TV watching has remained steady – they’re just watching more of both. Between 2011-2013, live TV watching dropped from 22:14 hours/week to 20:14 for teens, and time-shifted viewing rose from 1:31 to 1:51. For the littles, it was a rise from 24:09 to 24:16 in live TV, and a boost from 1:57 to 2:21.
Bindi Irwin, the 17-year-old daughter of the late Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter), was the first celebrity contestant revealed for season 21 of Dancing With the Stars. “This is completely different than anything I’ve ever done in my life,” said Irwin, who has been focused on wildlife conservation, on Monday’s Good Morning America. “I’m used to wrangling crocodiles.” The ABC competition series returns Monday, September 14 at 8p.

In a presidential candidate debate that will most certainly not include Donald Trump, CentroamericaTV, targeting the Central American community in the U.S., will air the first and second Guatemalan debates on Tuesday, August 25 and Thursday, September 3 at 9p. People who tweeted about three or more episodes of a program could be a valuable tool for advertisers, suggests a new report from Nielsen Social, “The Making of Social TV: Loyal Fans and Big Moments Build Program-Related Buzz.” The program authors “were also found to have more followers and sent more Tweets about brands,” notes the study. “Identifying and cultivating relationships with loyal authors could be powerful for TV networks and advertisers as they each look to maximize earned media driven by TV content and advertising.”
Ad tech company BlackArrow has been acquired by media services firm Cross MediaWorks, which owns network Cadent. “The power of this relationship is our ability to provide a single point of contact for all TV advertising at scale,” said Nick Troiano, CEO of BlackArrow, who will now be CEO of Cross MediaWorks. BlackArrow enables advertising in over 40 million Time Warner Cable, Charter, Bright House Networks, Rogers Communications, Liberty Global and Virgin Media VOD households.
Rohrs Media Group has been appointed to distribute domestically all of Bellum Entertainment’s content, across platforms. What’s the forecast? “They have three strips this fall with the launch of Corrupt Crimes, which will perform very well,” John Rohrs, president of RMG, tells Cynopsis. “Because Bellum owns all of their content, the combination of the Bellum sales team and the Rohrs Media Group sales team means that we have expertise and access to content for all facets of distribution, syndication, cable and new media.”
AMC Global and BT announced a variety of series and movies that will premiere on AMC from BT in conjunction with the channel’s UK launch on Friday, August 28. AMC will be the exclusive home of Fear the Walking Dead, with the first episode available free on the BT Showcase Channel, as well as premiering on AMC from BT on Monday, August 31 at 9p. Sky viewers will also have free access to the first episode via AMC from BT on channel 192. The AMC from BT channel will be available for free to all BT TV and BT Sport Pack subscribers. Rectify premieres exclusively on Tuesday, September 1 at 9p, and all seven seasons of Mad Man will debut Sunday, August 30 at 9p. A Breaking Bad premiere date will be announced shortly.
Left Bank Pictures has teamed with China International Television Corporation for a co-development deal for an English-language drama. The series, aimed at the Chinese as well as international markets, would go into production by 2016 and be distributed by Sony Pictures Television worldwide.
CBC’s Still Standing, a travel show focused on small towns in Canada, was renewed for a second season, to air in 2016.

Opposite preseason football on Fox and the record-breaking premiere of Fear the Walking Dead, ABC’s Bachelor in Paradise held its own on Sunday, maintaining its week-ago 1.3/4 A18-49 rating, according to preliminary ratings from Nielsen. And the number is likely to see a significant rise the prior Bachelor was the week’s top broadcast gainer in Live+7 ratings.
The Tuesday, August 18 season five launch of ID docu-series Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda delivered 3.8 P2+ million viewers and over 1.5 million P25-54 in Live+3, placing ID as the number five net in its time period among ad-supported cable in the demos, and number four among HHs. The episode broke ID’s record for best Prime telecast in net history for delivery among P2+ and HH.
The summer finale of ABC Family’s The Fosters delivered a near 8-month high in Live+3 ratings among A18-34 (767,000/1.1 rating) and hit 5-month highs in A18-49 (1.16 million/.9) and W18-49 (934,000/1.5). The summer premiere of the net’s Young & Hungry out-delivered its spring 2015 launch by 4 percent in A18-49 (to 747,000) and 13 percent in W18-49 (to 570,000).
