Good morning. It’s Friday August 14, 2015, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

FOX Sports locked in a deal to stream its first-ever major sporting event on YouTube, partnering to open the Bundesliga season on the platform. Friday will see defending champion Bayern Munich face Hamburg at 2:30p in a match that will now be live streamed on four platforms including YouTube, FOX Sports GO, FOX Soccer 2 GO, and FOXSports.com as well as on TV via FOX Sports 2 and FOX Sports RSNs. "We’re uber-excited to bring Bundesliga matches to US soccer fans on YouTube for the first time ever,” said Tim Katz, Head of Sports Partnerships, North America, YouTube.  “YouTube is already the premier home for sports highlights and with this partnership with FOX Sports we’re delivering even more great sports programming to fans."
 

ON THE AIR

ESPN is bringing back College Football Playoff: Top 25 for its sophomore season, announcing that the weekly reveal of CFP rankings will return on Oct. 20 at 7:30p as one of a pair of preview shows leading into the posting of the first rankings of the season on Nov. 3. Rece Davis hosts with analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Joey Galloway, Danny Kannell and David Pollack on seven consecutive Tuesdays through Dec. 1. A final four-hour program revealing the Playoff Semifinals pairings, the remaining New Year’s Six bowl pairings, and Top 25 rankings will then air on Selection Day, Sunday, Dec., 6 at noon.

Speaking of college football, FOX Sports solidified its talent lineup for the 2015 college football season for its channels, including Big Ten Network. In addition to the previously announced combo of Joel Klatt/Matt Leinart, Gus Johnson/Joel Klatt/Molly McGrath and Joe Davis/Brady Quinn/Kris Budden, FOX Sports is also adding Spencer Tillman and Steve Hutchinson to its game crews. Tillman reunites with play-by-play announcer Tim Brando to call games on FOX Sports 1, while Hutchinson rotates with Petros Papadakis in the analyst chair alongside play-by-play announcer Justin Kutcher. BTN, meanwhile, will be led by Kevin Kugler/Matt Millen/ Lisa Byington, along with Eric Collins/Glen Mason/Rebecca Harlow.
 
In other talent news, NFL Media is adding former All-Pro running back Maurice Jones-Drew, as well as two-time Super Bowl champion Ike Taylor and veteran NFL reporter Jeffri Chadiha to its team. Jones-Drew and Taylor will serve as analysts for NFL Media, appearing primarily on NFL Now as well as NFL Network shows such as NFL Fantasy Live and The Top 100 Players. Chadiha will report, write and contribute on a variety of NFL Media shows and platforms.

Continuing the theme, Tennis Channel original series Fit to Hit will showcase a new pair of hosts when it returns for its third season on Sunday at noon. Brad Benedict and Danielle Demski will now serve as the faces of the show, offering viewers nutritional science and techniques for maintaining peak physical and mental readiness. "So many Tennis Channel viewers play the sport and, since its beginning, Fit to Hit has provided them with the exercise and dietary advice used by today’s professional stars," said Laura Hockridge, vice president, original programming, Tennis Channel. "Our new, two-host format allows us to address viewers from different perspectives, as Brad, a former NCAA champion, can share insight with more experienced players while Danielle, a tennis novice, speaks to the weekend warriors."

A trio of senators has penned a letter to the Chairman of AT&T and the President of the Pac-12 Networks seeking to finally bring the sports channels to the newly acquired DIRECTV, according to The Oregonian. Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon), Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nevada) signed a letter mandating that the two sides come to an agreement before the launch of college football season. Of course, AT&T already has a deal in place with the conference for its incumbent cable services. "Beyond the burden and frustration placed on fans in our states who are not able to watch their favorite teams compete, we are also increasingly concerned about the potential long-term damage to our states’ flagship universities, which count on the Pac-12 Networks to promote the university, its student-athletes and its athletics programs," they wrote.

Roc Nation Sports, Golden Boy Promotions, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Canelo Promotions unveiled a battle between Miguel Cotto/Canelo Alvarez. The card will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9p.

Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel returns on Aug. 18 at 9p on HBO. Segments on the episode are set to include a feature on Rex Ryan, Ma’ake and Chris Kemoeatu, and George Lopez giving his take on Latinos in Major League Baseball.

On the radio front, Ryen Russillo inked a multiyear extension and will continue on with ESPN Radio as host of Russillo & Kanell, which is broadcast daily from 1  4 p.m. ET.  The new three-hour show will debut Monday, Aug. 31, and will be televised on ESPNEWS starting at 1p. In addition, Russillo will also have an expanded TV presence across multiple studio shows, with a focus on NBA programming.

Over at SiriusXM, the company announced that former Michigan head football coach Brady Hoke joined its lineup of hosts on SiriusXM College Sports Nation. Hoke will now host SiriusXM College Sports Today twice a week from 9a-noon throughout the college football season alongside Mark Packer and debuting on Aug. 18. In addition, SiriusXM announced that former PGA TOUR professional and TV analyst Mark Lye and longtime radio personality Bruce Murray will now host a new weekly show on SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio. Time to Let it Fly with Murray & Lye debuts Aug. 18 at 8p and run every Tuesday night. 

Yahoo Sports Radio announced the twentieth season debut of Around the NFL, taking place on Sunday, Sept.13, with Sean Salisbury and John Granato. The weekly show runs from 1-5p and first launched two decades ago with Bob Berger and Bruce Murray on 1-on-1 Sports in Northbrook, Illinois. With the football season kick-off, Yahoo Sports Radio will also launch the weekly special, The National Football Show with Herman Moore and Matt Shepard.

Levi’s is expanding its NFL size, announcing that, following the launch of its inaugural NFL Collection with the San Francisco 49ers last season, the brand is now expanding to six teams. In addition to the 49ers, other teams are set to include the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots, New York Giants and New York Jets. “Being the naming rights sponsor of Levi’s Stadium allowed us to spend time connecting with fans, which helped us identify a void in the wearable team merchandise market,” said James Curleigh, Levi’s brand President. “Fans want game day gear that reflects their everyday style, but also lets them proudly represent their favorite team. The Levi’s NFL Collection gives them that.” The collection includes both men’s and women’s apparel, incorporating four different pieces: the Levi’s NFL Varsity Trucker, Levi’s NFL Trucker, Levi’s NFL Western Shirt and Levi’s NFL Tee.

DoSomething.org unveiled its inaugural Athletes Gone Good list, honoring athletes for their charity work. The list was topped by Cristiano Ronaldo for his various causes including donating more than $83,000 to a 10-year-old fan in need of brain surgery and giving more than $165,000 to fund a cancer center in Portugal that treated his mother. Rounding out the top ten are: WWE Superstar John Cena; Serena Williams; South Korean figure skater Yuna Kim; Neymar Jr.; LeBron James; Heather O’Reilly; Maria Sharapova; Mo’ne Davis and Richard Sherman. “All over the world, athletes are using their platforms to rally fans around important causes,” said Naomi Hirabayashi, chief marketing officer at DoSomething.org. “DoSomething.org is proud to honor these athletes who are using their fame for good.”

DIGITAL & STREAMING

The MLB owners meetings saw owners unanimously endorse BAM Tech, a technology arm of MLB Advanced Media, to go it alone as a stand-alone entity. The division is worth about $8 billion and will now seek investment options, according to multiple reports.

FOX Sports Digital snatched up assets from StraightCast Media, including its ‘Gridiron Grunts’ mobile app and other technology in a new deal. Gridiron Grunts has been used by more than 200 NFL players to capture mobile video that can be shared across multiple platforms, including television, digital, and social media. FOX Sports Digital now plans to build out StraightCast Media to other sports, including MLB, UFC, soccer, and golf.

BTN announced plans to offer its largest fall sports slate ever in 2015, with over 250 men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey games set to be streamed via BTN Plus on BTN2Go to complement the network’s on-air schedule. The schedule will see over 107 men’s and women’s soccer games will be available on BTN Plus while women’s volleyball will see over 117 women’s volleyball matches carries across all platforms, the most ever and field hockey locked in for 26 games to be streamed on the platform.

FloSports is expanding with the launch of FloMuscle and FloGrappling, which will provide comprehensive coverage of bodybuilding and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on their respective sites. The new sports verticals join FloTrack, FloWrestling, FloElite, MileSplit, FloSoftball and Gymnastike under the FloSports banner. “This is an incredible opportunity to offer these global communities of sports fans exceptional and unprecedented coverage of their favorite sports at all levels of competition,” FloSports co-founder and CEO Martin Floreani said. “Bodybuilding and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fans crave authentic content, in-depth storytelling and live streams of top events in their respective sports, and we look forward to delivering it.”

FANTASY/GAMING/ESPORTS

ESPN unveiled its fantasy football plans, and will launch new content and features across ESPN platforms, new Team Logo Sticker Packs for players. To support it, ESPN will debut a new Tuesday fantasy football studio show, Fantasy Football Kickoff, that will feature host Robert Flores, Matthew Berry, Tim Hasselbeck and contributor Stephania Bell every Tuesday at 3p on ESPN, starting Aug. 18th. Kicking off preseason, ESPN.com has begun hosting Mock Draft Mondays from 10a-7p every Monday this month, while this year’s Commissioner Toolkit allows commissioners and team managers to share videos on social media, sync leagues to Facebook and invite friends to join.
