IN THE NEWS

Prime Video reversed its orders for second seasons of baseball comedy-drama “A League of Their Own” and sci-fi drama “The Peripheral.” Scripts for what had been planned as the four-episode final season of “League” had been completed before the writers’ strike, but the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes would have delayed both shows until 2025, when Amazon already has a heavy slate of originals scheduled, said Amazon reps.

Donald Trump reportedly plans to skip the first Republican primary debate on Wednesday, and instead post an online interview with fired Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson. Fox News, which is airing the debate (and still paying out Carlson’s contract), and R.N.C. chairwoman Ronni McDaniel have been working to persuade Trump to attend the event.

With viewership for the season two premiere of HBO’s “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty” down 30% from the series debut, Jeff Pearlman, author of the book on which the series is based, is playing cheerleader. “I’m telling you — the future of ‘Winning Time’ hangs in the balance. We need viewers,” Pearlman wrote on X. “The strikes are crippling. Please help spread the word. Season 2 is amazing. But … HBO is big on #s,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “And, to be blunt, I’m worried there won’t be a season three. And it’s not about me. I’m fine. It’s about a cast of amazing young actors who live this. So, seriously, tell your friends to support “Winning Time” and show @hbo you want it to continue.”

STRIKE UPDATES

After four days of talks last week, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will resume negotiations this week. “Thank you for the many messages of support and solidarity as we talk with the AMPTP,” wrote the union to its members. “As always, be skeptical of rumors from third parties, knowing that the Guild will communicate when we think there is something of significance to report.” Picket lines for both the writers’ and actors’ unions scheduled for Monday were canceled — not because of negotiations but due to concerns over a pummeling from tropical storm Hilary.

On Tuesday outside Disney Studios, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA’s Los Angeles Local will hold a “National Day of Solidarity” with the AFL-CIO. “In this ‘Summer of Strikes,’ working Americans everywhere are fighting for fair contracts, better compensation, safe working conditions and protections from encroaching technology,” said SAG-AFTRA in a statement. “Together, we are showing corporate America that when we fight, we win!”
