Paramount Global beat analysts’ expectations for 2Q22 with operating income of $819 million, down from $1.23 billion from the year prior. The company noted that it incurred higher spending related to its direct-to-consumer services versus the year before. Paramount+ added 4.9 million subscribers and saw revenue rise 120%. The company’s total global direct-to-consumer subscriber count increased to almost 64 million, counting the removal of 3.9 million subscribers from Russia. “In Q2, we grew total company revenue by 19 percent and took market share in streaming, in broadcast TV, in box office and in upfront dollars, all while increasing our penetration of the most important growth market in media-streaming,” said Chief Executive Bob Bakish.
“We’re confident we’re on the right path to meet our strategic goals and really excel, both creatively and financially,” said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in a statement released with the company’s second quarter results. In 2Q22, Warner Bros. reported total revenues were $9.8 billion. Net loss of $3.4 billion includes $2 billion of amortization of intangibles, $1 billion of restructuring and other charges, and $983 million of transaction and integration expenses.
Megan Thee Stallion and Demi Lovato will guest host “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” as part of Fallon’s Superstar Super Summer. Megan Thee Stallion will co-host on August 11, marking her first time co-hosting and her third appearance, and Lovato will act as special guest, co-host and musical performer between August 16 and 18.
Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin have been named permanent co-hosts of “The View.” They join Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines at the table in the daytimer’s 26th season.
Bow Wow will host new dating series “After Happily Ever After” for BET. The new unscripted dating series will ask exes from a divorce or separation to play matchmaker for their former partners. The project, slated to premiere this fall, marks Bow Wow’s return to BET after an eight-year hiatus.

Jason Katims inked a multi-project development deal with Imagine Television. This marks the reunion of Katims and Imagine, who collaborated on “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood.” Katims, who is coming off an overall deal at Apple, already has three projects in the works at Imagine.
Sanjay Shah signed an overall deal with CBS Studios. Under the two-year pact, Shah will executive produce and showrun “Everybody Still Hates Chris,” a reimagined animated version of Chris Rock’s autobiographical family comedy.
Starz confirmed “Outlander” prequel series, “Blood of My Blood.” The drama series will follow the love story of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser. Matthew B. Roberts will write the prequel and will serve as showrunner and executive producer, in addition to his producing roles for the flagship series, which is currently in production on its seventh season.
Hulu gave a series order to Onyx Collective’s “The Other Black Girl.” The adaptation of Zakiya Dalila Harris’s novel will be executive produced by Tara Duncan, Rashida Jones, Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Adam Fishbach, Zakiya Dalila Harris and Danielle Henderson, who will showrun.
“Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts” was renewed for a sophomore season at Disney+. In the second season, host Roberts, co-anchor of “Good Morning America,” will get personal with some of Hollywood’s groundbreaking women.
New series from Onyx announced at Summer 2022 TCA include true crime docu-series “Ring of Fire: The Life of Annie Mae Aquash” (working title), unraveling the decades-old mystery behind the murder of Annie Mae Aquash; “The Untitled Swizz Beatz Project,” following hip-hop legend and car collector Swizz Beatz as he visits car-loving destinations; and “Searching for Soul Food,” tracking celebrity chef Alisa Reynolds as she discovers what soul food looks like around the world.
COMING UP
Nickelodeon’s “The Tiny Chef Show” will feature RuPaul as voice announcer. The new series will welcome celebrity guests in each episode, including Kristen Bell, Sky and Ocean Brown, Tabitha Brown, Josh Dela Cruz, Josh Gad, Liza Koshy, RZA, That Girl Lay Lay and Keith L. Williams to talk about food, friendship and more. The series will premiere with a pancake special on September 9.

Docuseries “The Hair Tales,” from executive producers Oprah Winfrey, Tracee Ellis Ross and Michaela Angela Davis, debuts October 22 on OWN and Hulu.
“Lone Star Law” is back for a new season on Discovery starting Saturday, August 6 at 8p. Also returning is “Mysteries of the Deep,” on Wednesday, August 10 at 9p. “Tales from the Explorers Club” kicks off on Wednesday, August 31 at 9p.
Season three of Epix’s “War of the Worlds” debuts Monday, September 12 at 9p, with subsequent episodes airing weekly on Sundays at 9p.
STREAMING
CNN and Warner Bros. Discovery will launch a CNN Originals hub on discovery+ domestically on August 19. CNN content will include programming from CNN Original Series, CNN Films and HLN Original Series.
Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network shows will be available on HBO Max in September. The former HGTV superstars launched their Magnolia linear and streaming channel in partnership with Discovery last year. Select titles such as “Fixer Upper: Welcome Home,” “Magnolia Table with Joanna Gaines” and “The Lost Kitchen” will be available on September 30, with a new series, “Fixer Upper: The Castle,” in current production.

NBC Sports picked up Matthew Berry for its fantasy football content, where he will now offer his expertise across Peacock, NBC and NBC Sports digital platforms, including Football Night in America. He made his debut last night as part of the company’s coverage of the 2022 Hall of Fame Game. On weekdays throughout the NFL season, Berry will create a daily show on Peacock, discussing notable fantasy football and sports betting topics. The one-hour show will also be available live via NBC Sports Audio on SiriusXM Radio and as an NBC Sports Audio podcast across all major podcast platforms.
Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football is adding Taylor Rooks to join its wraparound coverage as a feature reporter. Rooks will host feature pieces, sit-down interviews with players and coaches, and more throughout TNF’s pregame, halftime, and postgame shows. In addition, Turner Sports locked in a multi-year extension with Rooks that will expand her presence throughout Bleacher Report and Turner Sports. Per the new agreement, Rooks will continue to conduct highlighted interviews for Bleacher Report, while also expanding her contributions to include special interview segments and appearances for NBA on TNT and other Turner Sports programming.
The United States Hockey League unveiled the League’s new Vision Statement focused on its placement in the hockey world as “a top stop in the development model for junior hockey.” The vision reads, “The United States Hockey League and its member clubs are committed to being the leading amateur athlete development league in the world. The USHL aspires to develop elite players, students, coaches, referees, hockey staff and business personnel, helping them become the best players, professionals and people they can be. The USHL is committed to being a leader in the hockey world and in the communities in which its member teams reside.”
The Big 12 Conference and Dallas Cowboys locked in an agreement for the Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship to be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington until 2025. “We are pleased to extend our partnership with the Dallas Cowboys for another two years, and to continue holding our football championship in one of the world’s finest stadiums,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark.
CASTING
Keanu Reeves will star in the adaptation of Erik Larson’s “Devil in the White City” for Hulu. The eight-episode limited drama series tells the story of a visionary architect who races to make history at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. It’s the first major US TV role for Reeves, who will also serve as an executive producer.
British actor Stephen Fry boarded Netflix’s new “The F**k It Bucket.” The upcoming UK young adult series from “The Crown” producer Left Bank Pictures already has a clutch of newcomers on the roster, including Sophie Wilde and Lauryn Ajufo.
Nancy Travis and Tiera Skovbye have joined the cast of Hallmark Channel’s “Ride.” The primetime series centered on a rodeo dynasty also features Beau Mirchoff, Sarah Garcia and Jake Foy.
Annaleigh Ashford signed onto Searchlight horror thriller “Dust.” Ashford will co-star opposite Sarah Paulson in the film, which will stream on Disney’s DTC platforms as a Hulu Original in the US.
