The premiere of REELZ docuseries “On Patrol: Live” on Friday night was delayed, airing a little over an hour later in its entirety. “Anything can happen on live television and as everyone saw we had some technical issues that delayed Friday’s night’s premiere; but we got through it and in the end delivered a great live police show on Friday and Saturday and brought many new viewers to REELZ,” Stan E. Hubbard, REELZ CEO, tells Cynopsis. New viewers, indeed – among A25-54 on Friday, even with the technical glitch, the show delivered 396,000 viewers in fast nationals, a number that rose to 403,000 in the demo on Saturday, game-changing figures for the network.

St. Vincent, James Taylor and Joe Walsh will each sit in for a week-long musical residency with CBS’s “The Late Show” house band Stay Human. St. Vincent’s term starts tonight, July 25, followed by Taylor the week of August 1 and Walsh the week of August 8. It will be the first time the artists have performed with a late-night house band.

Atlice USA is exploring selling Suddenlink as it seeks to pay down its debt load, reports Bloomberg. The telecommunications company is working with Goldman Sachs Group on a sale for as much as $20 billion, a source told the news outlet.

NBC News’ Washington bureau announced changes as it prepares for the July 31 retirement of Pete Williams, who is leaving after almost 30 years. Ken Dilanian will be promoted to justice and intelligence correspondent, and Kelly O’Donnell, senior White House correspondent, will add to her duties coverage of the Supreme Court on an interim basis until a full-time correspondent is hired. Julia Ainsley will serve as NBC News’ homeland security correspondent.

Twitter went from a $66 million profit in 2021 to a $270 million loss, according to its latest quarterly report. Twitter counted 237.8 million monetizable daily active users, up 17% from last year’s quarter but lower than projected. The company pinned the blame for the disappointing numbers on ad industry headwinds and uncertainty about its acquisition by Elon Musk. And that’s about all that will be shared. “Given the pending acquisition of Twitter by an affiliate of Elon Musk, we will not host an earnings conference call, issue a shareholder letter, or provide financial guidance in conjunction with our second quarter 2022 earnings release,” said the company.

The media and entertainment industry is “notorious for excluding people from historically underserved backgrounds,” say House and Senate members in a call for the FCC to initiate rulemaking to establish new content vendor diversity reporting requirements. Reps. Joaquin Castro (TX-20) and Yvette Clarke (NY-09) and Senator Ben Ray Luján (NM) are leading an effort that would require broadcast, cable, and satellite services to collect diversity data from their content vendors. “When Congress has complete and accurate information about the industry, Congress can create informed legislation,” they wrote. “When the public has this information, the public can make informed decisions about which content to consume.”

A recession that starts by year’s end could drive a 9.6% decline in TV advertising this year, to $78 billion, according to MoffattNathanson Research. If the economy skirts a recession, TV advertising would rise 6% to $86 billion, projects the company, up from $81 billion in 2021. US digital media ad revenue is forecast to grow in either event – rising 5%, to $176 billion, in a recession, and up 15% if a recession is averted.

ABC’s “Abbott Elementary” scored a full-season, 22-episode order for season two. The breakout freshman comedy, which premiered as a midseason replacement, had gotten an early renewal in March for 13 episodes.

Apple TV+ renewed “For All Mankind” for season four. Production starts next month, with a 2023 launch likely; season three wraps up July 29.

Disney+ Marvel series “What If…?” scored a season three renewal ahead of its season two debut, set for early 2023. Director Bryan Andrews and writer-exec producer AC Bradley broke the news at San Diego Comic-Con.

Also at Comic-Con, Marvel Studios President Feige announced “Daredevil” is coming back to the screen in the form of “Daredevil: Born Again,” a Disney+ series premiering in 2024. Vicent D’Onorio will reprise his role as mob boss Kingpin.

Theodore Witcher will return behind the camera for the first time in two decades to direct two episodes of AMC Studios’ “Demascus.” In addition to directing, Witcher serves as a Consulting Producer on the series starring Okieriete Onaodowan (“Jack Ryan”) as Demascus, a 33-year-old Black man who goes on a journey of self-discovery using an innovative new technology that allows him to experience different versions of his own life.

Joining Danny DeVito in the voice cast of FXX’s “Little Demons” will be his co-star from the 1988 film “Twins,” Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Sometimes you gotta lean on your friends to appear in your shows,” joked DeVito at Comic-Con. Also onboard for voice work are Mel Brooks, Will Jackson Harper, Pamela Adlon, Rhea Perlman, Shangela, Patrick Wilson, Dave Bautista, June Diane Raphael, Toks Olagundoye, Lamorne Morris, and Sam Richardson.

WWE founder and CEO Vince McMahon formally announced his retirement from the company, with Stephanie McMahon moving into the role of chairwoman and co-CEO with WWE president Nick Khan. McMahon will remain majority shareholder, with the announcement coming amid an investigation by the company’s board of directors into allegations that he had sexual relationships with employees paid the women millions of dollars as part of severance packages. “As I approach 77 years old, I feel it’s time for me to retire as Chairman and CEO of WWE,” McMahon said in a statement. “Throughout the years, it’s been a privilege to help WWE bring you joy, inspire you, thrill you, surprise you, and always entertain you.”

Broadcaster David Feherty is lining up a new home at the LIV Golf Invitational Series, according to an official release on Friday. “As a storyteller, this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to help write a new chapter in this sport’s history,” said Feherty in a statement. “LIV Golf is developing ideas and innovations that are going to grow the audience and engage the next generation of players and fans. I’m excited by the energy LIV Golf is creating and I’m eager to contribute to a world class broadcast production that has a vision towards the future.”

PokerGO announced a new show in No Gamble, No Future, with episodes set to begin airing at the beginning of August. The series will offer a “wide range of stakes will be offered from mid stakes to high stakes, and gambling is highly encouraged.” The show’s premiere episode will feature $200-$400 blinds with a $100,000 minimum buy-in. Commentary on the new show will be handled by the duo of Brent Hanks and Jeff Platt.

AEG and Socios.com launched a new marketing partnership for AEG’s inaugural Soccer Champions Tour, a new global soccer event running through July 30 that features five staple soccer clubs competing in matches in the span of only nine days across four major U.S. host cities including: Las Vegas, San Francisco, Dallas, and Los Angeles. The deal sees Socios.com becomes an official partner of the tour.

The weekend saw the NBA start carrying Drew League games, streaming play globally on the NBA app and NBA.com. The move marks the first time league platforms will carry a pro-am league, with programming running through the championship game on Aug. 21.

The first of the final eight episodes of AMC’s “The Walking Dead” premieres October 2. What to expect as the zombie drama wraps its eleventh season? “You wanna die quick, you wanna die screaming,” says Daryl Dixon (played by Norman Reedus) in the trailer played at Comic-Con.

Classically trained chef and food anthropologist Casey Corn dives into the stories and cultures of different families to recreate their lost family recipes in Magnolia Network’s “Recipe Lost and Found,” debuting on discovery+ on Friday, August 5.

Big changes are in store for “7 Little Johnstons,” back for a new season on TLC on Tuesday, August 16 at 9p.

COMING UP

A SpongeBob Universe crossover special, “The Tidal Zone,” encompassing all three animated series within the SpongeBob Universe – “SpongeBob SquarePants,” the Paramount+ original series “Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” and “The Patrick Star Show” – follows GrandPat as he makes his way through each dimension. The one-hour event is slated to premiere in November on Nickelodeon.

The upcoming second season of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will also include a crossover episode, with animated comedy series “Star Trek: Lower Deck” on Paramount+. The episode will feature both live action and animation.

Margot Robbie (“I, Tonya”), who appeared on Australia’s “Neighbors” from 2008-11, will appear in the series finale of the long-running soap opera.

“The Critic’s Choice Awards” returns to The CW next year, with a ceremony airing live from LA on January 15.

“Who is Alec Baldwin?” starts streaming today, July 25. The Fox Nation special spotlights the life of Alec Baldwin, from his acting career to the tragic shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of “Rust.” FOX News Channel’s Brian Kilmeade hosts.
