Russia’s state TV was hacked, with footage showing a Ukraine defense ministry video of attacks on Russian troops, then a message, “The hour of reckoning has come,” in Ukrainian. A June cyber attack on Russian TV was followed by assurances by officials that it wouldn’t happen again.

After telling “The View” hosts a “toxic relationship” with one of his former “The Five” co-hosts contributed to his exit from Fox News, Geraldo Rivera had more to say on NewsNation. “Fox left me,” Rivera told Chris Cuomo. “After they fired me, I said, ‘Well, wait a second. You know, I don’t want to work here anymore.’” FNC gave him a “plethora of options” to continue with the network in other capacities, added Rivera, but he declined.

The next season of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” will focus on The New York Jets, a decision the team’s new quarterback, Aaron Rogers, isn’t thrilled by. “They forced it down our throat and we have to deal with it,” he said of the show, which has an agreement with the league that mandates appearances by teams. But it’s not all bad -Rogers is a fan of “Hard Knocks” narrator Liev Schreiber. “I hope I get to meet him,” Rogers said.

The suspect depicted in “Lost Girls” pleaded not guilty to murder charges. After being arrested in Long Island for six counts of murder, Rex Heuermann – who is referenced in court filings as the prime suspect in the disappearance and death of the “Gilgo Four,” whose bodies were discovered along the Ocean Parkway in 2010 – was remanded without bail.

STRIKE UPDATES

Studios are “doing bad things to good people,” said SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher to a picketing crowd last week. “We are the victims here….They’re not willing to share in their wealth and change contracts to accommodate the new business model.” Addressing Disney CEO Bob Iger’s “tone deaf” comment that strikers are not being “realistic” with their demands, Drescher made headlines with remarks like, “It’s so obvious that he has no clue as to what is really happening on the ground with hard working people that don’t make anywhere near the salary he is making.”

With her city’s economy at risk, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called for both sides to work overtime to resolve the SAG-AFTRA strike. “With more than one hundred thousand workers now participating in an unprecedented strike, it is clear the entertainment industry is at a historic inflection point,” she said in a statement. “I call upon all sides to come to the table and work around the clock until an equitable agreement is reached.”

John Cusack took to Twitter to label AI a “criminal enterprise.” “Studios wanna have extras work one day, scan them – own their likeness forever – and eliminate them from the business…. Blame it on the algorithms you create to make more money. That’s not a labor deal – it’s a labor fatwa.”

The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers denied the allegation that prompted Cusack’s tweet. “The claim made by SAG-AFTRA leadership that the digital replicas of background actors may be used in perpetuity with no consent or compensation is false. In fact, the current AMPTP proposal only permits a company to use the digital replica of a background actor in the motion picture for which the background actor is employed. Any other use requires the background actor’s consent and bargaining for the use, subject to a minimum payment.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

A sci-fi series starring Michael Cera premieres today. Releasing on Steven Soderbergh’s website, Extension765, “Command Z” is an eight-episode futuristic series also starring Roy Wood Jr.

“Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” premieres September 10 on AMC and AMC+. Starring Norman Reedus, the second “Walking Dead” spinoff centers on Daryl when he washes ashore in France and works to find his way back home. A third spinoff, “The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne” is currently in pre-production, and is expected to debut next year.

HGTV’s “Renovation Resort Showdown” set a debut date. Hosted by Scott McGillivray and Bryan Baeumler, the home renovation series will premiere Sunday, July 23, at 9p. Set at McGillivray’s newly-purchased lakeside resort, teams will compete to transform the property in seven episodes.

COMING UP

FOX News Channel unveiled its new primetime programming schedule. “The Ingraham Angle” moves from 10p to 7p, followed by “Jesse Watters Primetime” in Tucker Carlson’s former 8p timeslot. “Hannity” stays put at 9p, while “Gutfeld!” moves to 10p and “FOX News @ Night” airs at 11p.

Univision’s “Premios Juventud” returns to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and is partnering with the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority, Puerto Rico Tourism Company, and Discover Puerto Rico for the 20th edition of the awards show, to be held Thursday, July 20 at 7p.

TLC’s “Match Me Abroad” hit a season high on July 9. The series, which premiered on May 14, has averaged over 1.7 million P2+ viewers across all platforms and is the No. 1 non-sports cable program in its time slot with people and women aged 25-54 and 18-49. The frosh has also accumulated more than 37.8 million video views across TLC’s social platforms.

ABC’s broadcast of the 2023 ESPYs on Wednesday delivered 2.34 million viewers and a 0.41 rating among A18-49 in Live+SD numbers, the highest demo rating of the night.
