Ken Howard announced he’s seeking re-election as president of SAG-AFTRA. “Despite countless jobs being created in seemingly endless new ways, performers have to work harder than ever to make ends meet,” said Howard. “For many, it’s a real struggle. It’s my mission to make sure SAG-AFTRA protects our members’ ability to do the work they love and to build their lives around it.” Howard was elected president of SAG in 2009 and 2011, then of the merged SAG-AFTRA in 2013. Ballots will be mailed July 21; Howard has already racked up endorsements from George Clooney, Betty White, Octavia Spencer and Bryan Cranston, among others.
Millennials are more likely to stay informed about political news through Facebook than via local television, according to a new study from the Pew Research Center. “Millennials and Political News” reports that 61 percent of Millennials get political news on Facebook – about the same percentage of Boomers who opt for TV. The data suggests that “younger and older generations espouse fundamental differences in the ways they stay informed about political news,” says the study, “differences that are of particular interest as the 2016 election campaigns ramp up.”
Monday was a big day for Caitlyn (formerly Bruce) Jenner. Vanity Fair posted its July issue cover pic, the first of Jenner as a transgender woman, and ESPN announced Jenner will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPY Awards, July 15 on ABC. E! docu-series featuring the Olympic champ’s transition journey launches July 26.

Ad spending on the Internet have an 11.4 percent lift in 2015, to $41.8 billion, while broadcast spending will get a .9 percent boost, to $38.9 billion, projects FTI Consulting, the first time core Internet spending beats broadcast. By 2018, FTI predicts $55.6 will be spent for online ads, versus $45.5 billion for broadcast and $40.0 billion for cable. “Our model suggests that digital substitution is the primary driver contributing to changes in the television ad ecosystem today,” says FTI Media & Entertainment Team Co-leader Philip Schuman.

Fox’s primetime premiere of Golan the Insatiable, moved from late night, drew .6/2 among A18-49 and 1.6 million viewers, according to preliminary Sunday Nielsens.
The spring finale of ABC Family’s Young & Hungry hit a series high among A18-34 (618,000/.9) for the third consecutive week, and season high among A18-49 (888,000/.7) for the second week.
The season finale of Bravo’s Southern Charm last Monday delivered a series high 1.7 million total viewers, 1.1 million P25-54 and 985,000 P18-49, according to Nielsen Live+3, up 11 percent, 21 percent and 9 percent, respectively, from the prior season closer.
History event series Texas Rising opened to a Live+3 audience of 5 million total viewers and 4.1 million total viewers on May 25 and May 26, respectively, making it the top entertainment cable telecast each night in Live+3 total viewers.
Across its nine nights, Animal Planet’s Monster Week (May 17-25) averaged 951,000 P2+ viewers, an increase of 13 percent over 2014.
