IN THE NEWS

NBCUniversal is launching new free ad-supported streaming TV linear content from across the NBCU Television & Streaming portfolio and NBCUniversal Global Distribution library. Bravo Vault, Million Dollar Listing Vault, Oxygen True Crime Archives, SNL Vault, GolfPass and Telemundo channels are among the network-oriented offerings, along with channels based on classic shows like “Lassie,” “Little House on the Prairie” and “Murder, She Wrote,” and genres like westerns and monsters.

NBCUniversal has inked agreements with Amazon Freevee and Xumo Play for the entire FAST content portfolio. Xumo Enterprise will power the distribution the new FAST channels on third party services. “NBCUniversal is in the enviable position of owning a vast array of iconic shows that are not part of our broadcast and cable networks to curate a valuable portfolio of FAST channels,” said Matt Schnaars, President, NBCUniversal Content Distribution. “These channels, with content from some of the most recognizable brands in television, will find an immediate audience in the growing FAST ecosystem, and create value for NBCUniversal, our distribution partners, and our advertisers.”

When it comes to Amazon.com, it appears the Federal Trade Commission is just getting warmed up. The agency has already filed three cases against the e-retail giant, but Bloomberg reports a far-reaching antitrust lawsuit will be filed in a matter of weeks focused on Amazon’s online marketplace. It is expected the FTC will allege Amazon leverages its muscle to favor merchants that use its logistics services.

“Reservation Dogs” will end with its upcoming third season. “It’s the correct decision creatively for the show. I always knew what the end of this story would be, I just didn’t know when it would arrive,” said Sterlin Harjo, co-creator of the FX-on-Hulu series. “As we continued to break stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, [co-creator] Taika [Waititi] and me that the season three finale is the perfect series finale.” A statement from FX said, “People throw around the words historic and groundbreaking far too often and without merit: ‘Reservation Dogs’ is worthy of those superlatives. Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi created one of the most important TV shows ever made. They gave the world a wholly unique, original, and honest portrayal of Native people—one that has never before been seen in television or film.” Season three premieres August 2.

Geraldo Rivera quit Fox News because was fired from “The Five,” he tweeted on Thursday. “After 23 years tomorrow Fox and Friends could be my last appearance on the network. Thanks for the memories,” he said. Rivera added he’d have “more to say about that” on today’s “Fox and Friends.”

MGM+ has renewed sci-fi horror series “From” for a third season. “From,” set in a nightmarish town where all who enter are trapped there, is the second-most viewed series on the network so far.

CNBC senior White House Correspondent Kayla Tausche has left the network after nearly 13 years. “It’s time for a new adventure,” Tausche posted on Twitter.

Canela Media is now available on Fubo. Canela Deportes, Canela Clásicos, Canela Cinema and Canela Telenovelas will be available to subscribers of Fubo’s Latino plan as well as its Latino Plus channel package.

Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly exploring ways to add live programming from CNN to Max. One possible stumbling block: agreements with traditional distributors that give them first access to CNN’s live broadcasts. Docuseries and films produced by CNN, as well as series like “The Whole Story,” are already available for streaming.

SPORTS ROUNDUP

Telemundo’s programming for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 includes more than the event’s 64 matches. “We are committed to delivering the best and most comprehensive coverage of this summer’s Women’s World Cup, and to do so, we’re leveraging our network’s popular daily programming as well as the NBCUniversal brands to enhance the World Cup viewing experience and super serve our audiences across all platforms,” said Eli Velazquez, EVP of Sports, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises.

The Anaheim Ducks used Proto to beam their draft pick, Leo Carlsson, live from the NHL event in Nashville to the Ducks’ draft party at Honda Center in Anaheim, where he was able to interact with fans and media, and reveal the team’s new 30th anniversary jersey. It was the first time Proto had been used at a pro sports draft event to beam a chosen player instantly to his new home team.

GOING GLOBAL

Sky Deutschland is getting out of the scripted business in 2024. “The cost of producing scripted content has continued to rise, in part driven by the emergence of myriad new streaming providers, making it harder for drama series to cut through,” said the company’s Devesh Raj. Shows in production will be completed.
