IN THE NEWS
AMC Networks plans to scale back after “overspending,” shared EVP and CFO Patrick O’Connell at the Gabelli Funds Media and Entertainment Symposium. “I think over the last couple of years, AMC, to a lesser degree, but the industry broadly, overspent on programming [and] overspent on marketing, as well,” O’Connell said, noting that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company’s content spend averaged between $950 million and $1 billion, but it increased to “about $1.35 billion” last year.” “We’ve made a commitment to take that back down to pre-pandemic levels,” he said.
Tom Holland says he is taking a year off after “The Crowded Room.” Based loosely on the crimes of Billy Milligan, who was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder, the 10-episode Apple TV+ miniseries stars Holland. “We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before,” Holland said. “And then on top of that, being a producer dealing with the day-to-day kind of problems that come with any film set added that extra level of pressure. I really enjoyed it, but then again, the show did break me.”
Bryan Cranston plans to quit acting in 2026. The Emmy-winning actor also said he will relocate to France with his wife and shut down his production company, Moonshot Entertainment, when he turns 70 in three years. “It’s about taking a chance,” he told British GQ. “I’m used to that feeling of not knowing.”

Soccer superstar and 2022 FIFA World Cup champion Lionel Messi is moving to Inter Miami CF. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and current World Cup holder accepted the offer from the team co-owned by David Beckham, including a $30 million signing bonus and a cut of profits from image rights, including jersey sales, which could hike up his annual salary to approximately $75 million. According to multiple reports, Apple played a part in Messi’s move, offering him a percentage of revenue from new MLS Season Pass signups. The production company also revealed that a new four-part docuseries on the soccer legend will air on Apple TV+.

Taking on a new role as the athletic director at his alma mater, the University of Notre Dame, Bevacqua is the latest high-level executive to leave the media giant following former CEO Jeff Shell’s exit. Bevacqua will stay on until the end of the month, according to a memo to staffers. “Anyone who knows Pete will tell you that other than his family, Notre Dame is his next greatest love, and now he has been given the opportunity to have a huge impact on their storied sports programs and the institution in general,” said Mark Lazarus, NBCU TV chairman, in a statement.
Eight-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo and actor Will Arnett are teaming up to host alternate telecasts of Formula 1 races with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions. The two other editions will take place for the United States Grand Prix in Austin, TX, on October 22, and the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix on November 18. “This is going to be a hoot!” said Ricciardo. “As you’d expect, Will and I are going to have some fun with the show, but we’re hoping it just feels like you’re watching F1 with your mates. We will have some amazing guests, plenty of laughs and with some luck, bring fans another step closer to the sport I love so much. Buckle up, America!”
