NBC Olympics is lining up distribution of 4K Ultra HD coverage to cable, satellite, telco providers, and other partners ahead of this summer’s Games. Coverage will be offered on a one-day delay and will include 4K UHD footage from the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, swimming, track and field, basketball, the men’s soccer final, and judo, as well as Rio scenics. One event will be provided daily from August 6-22. NBC Olympics will distribute the 4K UHD coverage provided by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Japan’s NHK to US distribution partners, who will individually choose how they will make the content available to their customers.
“The Olympics have been a consistent driver of technological advancements, and Rio will be no different,” said Gary Zenkel, President, NBC Olympics. “The stunning backdrop of Rio combined with the world-class competition of the Olympics will give the American audience a spectacular early look at this impressive new technology.”
TNT’s The Dunk King ruled the night as the the four-part series delivered an average of 2.1 million total viewers for Tuesday night’s finale. Viewership rose 19% from the debut episode through the final round. That was good enough to rank as the most-viewed program of the night based on total viewership and all key demos.
FOX’s coverage of the first-ever FA Cup-MLS doubleheader on saw Manchester United victory over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final reel in 1.018 million viewers, up 26% in total viewers compared to the 2015 final. The Red Bulls subsequent win over New York City FC took in 595,000 total viewers, making it MLS’s most-watched regular-season telecast on any network since October 2014.
Elsewhere on the ratings front, with the 2015-16 TV season now officially completed, NBC saw Sunday Night Football finish as television’s top primetime show in household rating with a 13.0 score and viewership of 22.5 million on average. This marks the fifth consecutive season that the franchise has claimed the spot. SNF also ranked as the top show in the 18-49 demo for the sixth consecutive TV season.

NASCAR is working with Academy Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh on the feature film Logan Lucky, depicting a theoretical heist at Charlotte Motor Speedway. “We are excited to work with Steven, Channing and all of Logan Lucky’s incredible cast and producers,” said Zane Stoddard, NASCAR Vice President of Entertainment Marketing and Content Development. “It’s a big-hearted, fun story that showcases NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway as the world-class sports entertainment property and venue that they are, much like the Bellagio in Steven’s Ocean’s Eleven.”
The NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl revealed that this year’s game will take place on Dec. 30 at University of Arizona Stadium in Tucson and pit a team from the Mountain West against a team from the Sun Belt Conference as part of a deal that will span the 2016-2019 seasons. Additionally, Campus Insiders locked in a multi-year media partnership for the streaming of the game and enhanced digital game experience on CampusInsiders.com. Campus Insiders is also finalizing an agreement with a national linear broadcast partner to televise the game.
Golf Channel hits the 2016 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships starting Monday with the Individual National Championship at 7p, followed by the Quarterfinals (at 1:30p) and Semifinals (at 6p) the next day and concludes on June 1 starting at 6p. Golf Channel’s on-air team will feature Lanny Wadkins as lead analyst and Bob Papa as play-by-play host. Curt Byrum will serve as hole announcer, with Billy Ray Brown, Cook and Notah Begay reporting from the course.
Tennis Channel’s upcoming documentary, Signature Series: Barnstormers, is set to debut on June 2 a 2p. The feature “reveals the untold story of a small group of tennis pioneers who spent decades fighting an unjust system to ultimately create the sport’s modern Open Era.” Robert Redford narrates.
beIN Sports will offer new English and Spanish language programming surrounding the 2016 Copa America Centenario tournament, offering viewers special editions of the network’s original studio shows, "The Xtra" and "The Locker Room," on beIN SPORTS and beIN SPORTS en Espanol, respectively. Both channels will carry special live original news and editorial analysis that will preview and analyze the exciting matchups.

Taco Bell is teaming up with the NBA to offer a “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” promotion during the 2016 NBA Finals. The promotion will offer fans a free Doritos Locos Taco if a team wins (“steals”) a road game in the NBA Finals, which begin June 2 on ABC. If the road team wins Game 1, Game 2, or Game 3, America will get the tace on June 15 from 2p-6p. If the road team wins Game 4, Game 5, Game 6, or Game 7, the giveaway takes place on June 21.
Ahead of the UEFA European Football Championship, ESPN is offering a new integrated marketing campaign entitled “More Than Football,” celebrating the soccer tournament. The campaign’s inaugural spot introduces “sweeping shots of French landmarks interlaced with footage of some of the most iconic moments and players in the history of the tournament, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.”
Outdoor ad company JCDecaux is partnering with Tennis Channel to offer live daily scoring updates across its network of 260 digital screens in US airports, including John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia, Newark, Los Angeles, Miami International and Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental. "This partnership with JCDecaux puts Tennis Channel’s brand in front of millions of air travelers during this year’s French Open and extends the overall reach of our network," said Robyn Miller, Senior Vice President, Tennis Channel.
Vice Sports has reportedly signed Roger “Rog” Bennett and Michael "Davo" Davies, aka The Men in Blazers, to a partnership for its digital platforms. The NBCSN hosts will cover the Copa America and Euro 2016 games exclusively for Vice Sports’ digital platforms as part of the pact, according to THR, and make their debut on June 3.
USA Boxing is looking to drum up a connection with audiences ahead of the Rio Olympics with a “Day in the Life” video series spotlighting the communities and athletes who will be represented in Brazil this Summer. The slate debuts on May 30 at the NGB’s site, www.usaboxing.com.
