American Idol is getting at 15th and final season on Fox. Host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will be back for the grand hurrah. The singing completion that once averaged over 20 million viewers now pulls in about 9 million. Co-chairman of Fox Television Group Gary Newman said Fox and Idol producers FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment “felt collectively” that it was the right time for the franchise to end, but promised “a year-long celebration.” Season 14 finale airs tonight at 9p and Wednesday, May 13 at 8p.

CBS renewed CSI: Cyber, The Odd Couple, Person of Interest, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Hawaii Five-0, Criminal Minds, Elementary, The Good Wife and Blue Bloods. On the reality show side, Survivor, The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss will all be back, along with newsmags 60 Minutes and 48 Hours. Freshman drama Stalker was axed; missing from the list but not yet canceled: CSI.
Fox is splitting season two of Empire into two parts, one to air in the fall and one in spring. Ne-Yo, a fan of the hit show, will write music for the hip hop drama’s sophomore run. Chris Rock, Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz will guest star.
The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz, a simulcast of the ESPN radio show, premieres on Fusion May 19 at 4p. The three-hour programs bolsters the net’s live offerings weekday afternoons from 4-7p.

Missing from Fox’s fall schedule is New Girl, which is set to return midseason. Freshman sci-fi drama Minority Report lands Mondays at 9p, while all-new Tuesday comedy block is made up of Grandfathered at 8p, The Grinder at 8:30p and Scream Queens at 9p. Rosewood grabs the Wednesday-at-8p slot.
Fox event series The X-Files landed the plum post-NFC championship premiere slot of Sunday, January 24. Sci-fi drama settles into its regular berth the following night at 8p.
The 58th Annual Grammy Awards moves from Sunday to Monday, February 15, 2016 (a holiday weekend), at 8p. This year’s broadcast drew 27 million viewers for CBS.
Disney XD is premiering two specials this month. Team Hot Wheels: Origin of Awesome arrives Saturday, May 6 at 6:30p, followed a week later by Team Hot Wheels: Skills to Thrill. Playground Productions produces.
Documentary Now!, created by SNL alum Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Seth Meyers and exec produced by Lorne Michaels, premieres Thursday, August 20 at 10p on IFC. “We’re all fans of documentary film and this allows us to use that love of documentary film and combine it with comedy to present a sort of unique take on the form,” said Armisen, Hader and Meyers in a joint statement.
Discovery Life’s Psych Week programming launches on Monday, May 25 at 10p with Kids With Tourette’s. One-hour special follows three young boys and their families over six months of living with the incurable condition.

Discovery U.S. Hispanic Networks announced its 2015-2016 Upfront slate, including unscripted Discovery en Espanol series Cuban Chrome, Lost and Starving (wt), and specials Racing Extinction and Lunar XPrise. Series new to Discovery Familia include Buying Alaska, Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares, Top Chef, How Do I Look, Quinceanera, My Big Fat Fabulous Life and New Girls on the Block.
The portfolio is boasting its highest rated quarter on record, with year-over-year growth of 93 percent for Discovery Familia, and Discovery en Espanol ranking as the number one Spanish language cable net in late prime time among adults, men and women 18-49, tying its highest-rated first quarter on record. “Discovery en Español and Discovery Familia provide inspiration and knowledge that connects in remarkably intimate and relevant ways with our viewers, and this season we are inviting advertisers to be a part of the action as we take audiences even farther with some of the most timely and compelling content available on Spanish-language television,” said Ivan Bargueiras, GM. “At Discovery, we tell the stories that really matter.”
While admitting NBC “had some ups and downs this year,” NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt took to the stage of Radio City Music Hall on Monday to point to all the number one-rated network is doing right, including having the “hot hand” in late night with The Tonight Show and Late Night With Seth Myers.
The Blacklist will be paired with better-suited new series Heroes Reborn and The Player next season, for a night of “smart but escapist” entertainment. And TV’s top-rated reality show, The Voice, will lead in to new Greg Berlanti drama Blindspot. After Tuesday’s The Voice comes drama Heartbreaker at 9p and variety show Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris at 10p.
On the comedy front, Undateable, live for season three, and newbie People Are Talking will be joined midseason by a revival of Coach, with Craig T. Nelson; Eva Longoria’s Hot and Bothered; Superstore, with America Ferrara and family comedy Crowded.
Greenblatt also announced that Stephanie Mills, who starred as Dorothy in the Broadway production of The Wiz, will play Auntie Em in NBC’s live TV version, slated for Thursday, December 3. The search for Dorothy is underway.
The network’s pitch to advertisers: “When you take our content, our data, our technology, our scale and our demographic reach, there’s no equal,” said Linda Yaccarino, advertising sales and client partnerships chairman. Yaccarino outlined advertising initiatives, also noting the company’s new programming alliance with AOL. “Fueled by Comcast, and Comcast’s investments in our sports rights, our digital distribution, technology, data acquisition, advanced analytics, creative capabilities and of course all that premium video content you heard [Bob Greenblatt] talk about, our momentum is sure to accelerate in the coming year.And so will the pace of change in our industry,” said Yaccarino.
The presentation ended on a high note, with Greenblatt accompanying Dolly Parton in a performance of “I Will Always Love You,” earning a standing O from the packed house.
Azteca America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Mexican broadcaster TV Azteca, S.A.B de Cv., one of the two largest producers of Spanish-language content in the world, announced its 2015-2016 programming line-up on Monday at NYC’s Best Buy Theater. The slate includes a Liga MX soccer line-up, “La Hora Ganadora” (“The Winning Hour”), a new hour of interactive family entertainment, a global novela and updated returning favorites.
The “Winning Hour” 7p block includes competition Baila Si Puedes (Dance If You Can), game show Todo o Nada (All or Nothing), lookalike show Soy Tu Doble (I’m Your Double) and competition Escape Perfecto (The Perfect Escape). Three new novelas take up 8p, and action/drama series take the screen at 10p.
“Last year, I made a commitment to our advertisers and partners to deliver new executive leadership, a new Azteca Station Group, a stronger brand, more solid programming and innovative partnerships,” said Manuel Abud, President, CEO, Azteca America. “One year later, we have delivered on those promises, made impressive strides and achieved significant milestones.”
Brazil’s TV Globo commissioned Armoza Formats’ factual entertainment format The Gran Plan. Local adaptation is slated to air in September with production starting now.

Sunday’s series finale of Revenge delivered a 1.3/4 rating among A18-49 in fast nationals, the ABC drama’s best number since November 16. ABC was tops in the demo for the night with 1.5/5, and second in viewers (5.4 million) to CBS (8.2 million).
TLC’s 19 Kids & Counting delivered 3.6 million P2+ viewers May 5, with a two-hour birth special that averaged 2.9 among W25-54. New series The Willis Family averaged 1.9 million P2+ viewers and 1.4 W25-54 rating. TLC was the number one network in all of television on Tuesday night with W18-34 and the number one cable network with all key women demos.
The two-hour 19 KIDS & COUNTING birth special was the #1 cable program in prime on Tuesday night among all key women demos, and was the #1 program in delivery in prime on all of television with W18-34. The series premiere of THE WILLIS FAMILY ranked #1 in cable in its Tuesday 10-11pm time period in delivery among W25-54.
E!’s Botched delivered 925,000 viewers A18-49 on Tuesday, May 5 in Live+3, a season two record high, ranking as a top 5 show for the night among W18-34 (#3), A18-34 (#4), W18-49 (#4), and a top 10 show for the night among A18-49 (#7), in all of ad-supported cable, excluding sports.
TV One’s News One Now town hall meeting, “State of Baltimore and Beyond” on Tuesday, May 5 was number one in the 9-11p timeslot among Black P25-54. “African Americans are strong news consumers, and are interested in vital issues such as police brutality,” said Roland S. Martin, host and moderator of News One Now. “At TV One, we speak to our audience in a way that no one else can, and are unapologetic in doing so.”
