NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

Digital video network Ora.TV signed up William Shatner as a development partner, landing them exclusive rights, starting June 23, to new eps of the actor/spokesman’s web series, Brown Bag Wine. Shatner will also produce new content for the network. Ora.TV currently has deals with Larry King and his show, Larry King Now, as well as Jess Ventura‘s Off the Grid

Digital publisher Shandy Media launched a new online video network called The Pub. The site will provide millennial-focused content covering entertainment, music, fashion, sports and food from its properties Hollyscoop, The Fumble, The Savory, ModaMob and Sterotude. The platform will produce 600 new videos each month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The FYI network is pulling inspiration from Pinterest for its new series, We’re Moving In. Six half-hour episodes will turn to the social-pinning site for decorating ideas, as couples and families blend styles. FYI, replacing A+E‘s Bio channel, launches in July.

AD PLATFORMS

MediaMath introduced a self-service Twitter Tailored Audiences app in its TerminalOne Marketing Operating System platform yesterday. The app is designed to help marketers identify users who have interacted with their brand on websites and mobile web platforms, data that can be used for custom campaigns on Twitter. "Our partnership with Twitter enhances the value of our single platform offering through which marketers can efficiently manage all of their multi-channel strategies," said MediaMath’s VP of Global Business Development, Chris Victory.

App monetization and distribution platform Appnext has acquired AppHome for $2.5 million. AppHome originally developed Appnext’s API, enabling its mobile app/game developers and publishers to create and manage native ads and promotional tools.

MOBILE GAMING + APPS

Multiplatform media company BabyFirst and AT+T U-Verse‘s new app, released yesterday, draws babies and toddlers into the second-screen craze. Young users can create their own designs in The Activity Room; Color Pages lets them choose colors and shapes. "The addition of the BabyFirst App delivers a fun and educational interactive viewing opportunity," said AT+T U-verse’s VP of Video Development Stephen Rys. "It’s a great complement to the BabyFirst programming."

This year’s Super Bowl may have been the most-viewed live stream ever in the U.S., but it appears the Big Game fell flat when it came to the number of commercials shared on social media. Unruly unveiled The Science of Sharing 2014 yesterday, a study showing the Bowl ads missed the mark when it came to virality. Among the findings: celebrities don’t drive social sharing for spots, emotion does. The top three ads, Budweiser: Puppy Love (1,649,017 shares), Budweiser: A Hero’s Welcome (279,868 shares) and Coca-Cola: America Is Beautiful (219,654 shares) all tugged at the heartstrings. And, only 49 percent of viewers who watched Microsoft‘s Empowering ad reported brand recall, compared to the 89 percent of who remembered the Budweiser brand from Puppy Love.

Cord cutters are still big fans of cable programming, according to new research from Experian Marketing Services. Ad Age reports the study shows cord-cutters, or those that stop subscribing to pay-TV services, are more likely than the average Internet user to watch Fox content like Hell’s Kitchen (74 percent) online. The study also reported that 18 percent of cord-cutting households have Netflix or Hulu accounts; Netflix subscribers are 181 percent more likely to be cord-cutters, while the number for Hulu households is 138 percent.
