Good morning. It’s Thursday April 13, 2017 and this is your first early morning Sports briefing.
The National Football League has been sued by the city of St. Louis and the region’s convention and sports complex authority over the relocation of the Rams to Los Angeles more than a year ago. The NFL and all 32 of the league’s teams are named as defendants in the suit, which seeks damages and restitution of profits. The NFL says there’s no legitimate basis for the litigation.
The lawsuit, filed in St. Louis Circuit Court, claims the Rams failed to meet the NFL’s relocation rules, therefore breaching their existing contract, while making intentionally false statements. The suit states that the city has lost between $1.85 million and $3.5 million a year in amusement and ticket tax revenue due to the Rams’ exit. St. Louis has also lost approximately $7.5 million in property tax, $1.4 million in sales tax revenue and “millions” more in earning taxes.

The San Antonio Stars have the first overall pick as well as the No. 5 selection.
The United Soccer League, the world’s largest Division II professional league with 30 markets in 20 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces, has kicked off its USL Television Network. The network will reach more than 10 million households in 17 unique markets and will televise 300 games during the 2017 season, with Spanish-language broadcasts available. All games will be produced by USL Productions, the league’s $10 million investment.
ESPNU and SEC Network are headed to Mexico. The networks have been made available to college sports fans through Totalplay, the entertainment and total connectivity company that offers internet, interactive television and telephone services in more than 20 Mexican cities.
