CMT bought another ticket to Nashville. Picked up after it was canceled by ABC, the country music drama ranks as CMT’s highest-rated and most-watched series (2.1 million weekly viewers in L+7) ever. Midseason 5 premiere date is Thursday, June 1 at 9p; season 6 will launch early next year.

ESPN was first to sign up for Nielsen’s new out-of-home reporting service, capturing linear TV commercial viewing in places like bars and restaurants, frequent host to sports viewers. “Way before TV was multi-platform, it was multi-place – especially for millions of sports fans,” said Ed Ernhardt, president, ESPN global sales and marketing, adding that Nielsen’s new offering “is a significant step forward in measuring the unmeasured to create an accurate total live audience metric.”

Charter Communications is being sued in Missouri for selling subscribers’ personally identifiable information without their consent, according the St. Louis Record. In a class action suit, the cable operator is accused of violating the state’s Merchandising Practices Act.

Drake and The Chainsmokers topped the list of Billboard Music Awards nominations, with a record-tying 22 each. Ceremony airs live from Vegas Sunday, May 21 at 8p on ABC.

Another reality show spin-off will also debut this summer. Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky follows bad-boy bartender Jax Taylor and his southern belle girlfriend Brittany Cartwright as they leave LA to visit her family on their Kentucky farm. Evolution Media is producing.

ABC Studios International is teaming with Hoodlum Entertainment, the Australian Broadcasting Company and Screen Queensland for crime drama Harrow, to be produced Down Under. Series focuses on a forensic pathologist who is brilliant, unorthodox and possibly a murderer.

Netflix ordered 10 episodes of a horror drama series from Mike Flanagan (Origin of Evil), Amblin TV and Paramount TV. The untitled project reimagines 1959 novel The Haunting of Hill House.

COMING UP

Showtime Documentary Films is partnering with Neon to release Risk, focused on WikiLeaks’ Julian Assange, in theaters. The movie, over 6 years in  the making, will have its TV premiere on Showtime this summer. “It is an exciting time to be working with Showtime and Neon,” said filmmaker Laura Poitras. “Both organizations are thinking outside the box about how to bring complex stories to a wide audience.”

ID’s Sexual Assault in College: Tamron Hall Investigates premieres Sunday, April 30 at 8p. Hall sits down with sexual assault survivors who share heartbreaking stories, as well as the steps being taken to reduce attacks, in the one-hour special.

Spanish-language movie channel Cinelatino is celebrating Easter with a collection of religious movies every night this week, through Sunday, April 16.

Nat Geo WILD’s third annual “Barkfest Weekend” starts Friday, April 14. New specials include Puppies vs. the World on Friday at 8p, and Boss Dog on Saturday at 9p.

Oprah Winfrey will pop into CBS’s The Talk for the first time on Monday, April 17. Winfrey will discuss her new HBO film, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, as well as her new role as special correspondent on 60 Minutes.

HBO stand-up special T.J. Miller: Meticulously Ridiculous will premiere Saturday, June 17 at 10p. The comic stars in HBO’s Silicon Valley.

Amazon gave a 2-season order for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, from Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls). Dramedy about a 1950s housewife who dives into the world of stand-up comedy stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards).
 

VIDEOS IN SHORT

Video site Dailymotion is relaunching in June, switching focus from user-generated content to a curated feed of professionally produced video. The target audience of A18-49 will find new apps, an Instagram-like design on mobile devices and an array of live-streamed video events.

ADVERTISING

As advertisers step up the drumbeat for greater transparency in digital ad ratings, Nielsen reported Monday that it has received accreditation from the Media Rating Council for viewability integrations with its Integral Ad Science and Moat. “This latest accreditation of two of Nielsen’s viewability solutions affirms our commitment to providing clients with independent measurement they can trust,” said David Wong, SVP of digital product leadership at Nielsen. On Sunday, the New York Times ran an interview with Marc S. Pritchard, chief brand officer of Procter & Gamble, who spoke for many when he said of digital advertising, “The entire murky, nontransparent and in some cases fraudulent supply chain is the problem. It’s a bigger problem than just any one thing. There’s too much we don’t know and we don’t have validated.”

Alfred Haber Inc. secured international rights for Stayin’ Alive: A Grammy Salute to the Music of the Bee Gees, marking the 40th anniversary of Saturday Night Fever. Special airs on CBS Sunday, April 16 at 8p.

Nippon Television Network Corporation announced that Shanghai-based production company Youhug Media has acquired the format rights to drama series Your Home Is My Business! and will be remaking the series in Chinese.

Armoza Formats’new Play Date scored its first international agreement. The docu-series has been signed with ProSiebenSat.1 Germany, which acquired the local rights to the show.

UK factual entertainment channel CBS Reality will premiere crime docu-series The Jury Room on Sunday, May 28. FirstLookTV is producing.

Estrella TV is now available on Roku streaming devices in Mexico. It’s Estralla’s first entry into international distribution. “We see Mexico and Latin America as a huge growth opportunity for Estrella TV,” said Cathy Lewis Edgerton, SVP, distribution and affiliate sales, LBI Media. “They will continue to be a significant area of focus for our organization.”

RATINGS

Advertisers may have dropped by the dozens in the wake of a N.Y. Times report saying Bill O’Reilly and Fox News Channel paid over $13 million to settle sexual harassment claims made against the host, but his audience grew. The O’Reilly Factor averaged 3.7 million viewers and 652,000 among A25-54 for the week, up 12% on both counts.

HGTV’s Flip or Flop Vegas averaged a .68 rating among viewers P25-54 during its premiere on Thursday, April 6, a 19 percent increase over year-ago levels in the timeslot. The series delivered 2.5 million total viewers and was a top 5 rated program in all of cable for upscale women 25-54.

CBS’s Masters Golf on Sunday delivered 16.13 million viewers and a 3.1 rating among A18-49 at 7p, according to early numbers, as Sergio Garcia claimed his first major title in a playoff.

The season 6 finale of Showtime’s Homeland drew 1.9 million viewers on Sunday, up from 1.1 million for the drama’s season premiere and 1.3 million for the week prior.

IN MEMORIAM

British-born Guy O’Sullivan, founder and President of Canadian production house Proper Television, died suddenly over the weekend at age 49. “Guy had a tremendous impact in the Canadian and international television industry, and was adored by his colleagues and staff,” said the company. No cause of death was given.
