IN THE NEWS

The Late Late Show with James Corden crosses the pond this summer, travelling to England to broadcast three special episodes from Central Hall Westminster. It marks the first international trip for the talker. “To bring The Late Late Show to London is a dream come true for me,” said Corden. “I’m incredibly proud of the show and we’re going to do our best to make this week in London memorable.” UK shows will Tuesday, June 6 through Thursday, June 8 on CBS.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and ABC announced key dates for the 91st, 92nd and 93rd Oscars presentations: February 24, 2019, February 23, 2020, and February 28, 2021, respectively. Nominations for the 2018 Oscars will be announced January 23, 2018. Meanwhile, the 90th Academy Awards will air live on ABC on March 4, 2018.

The list of major companies pulling ads from Bill O’Reilly’s Fox News Channel primetime show continues to grow, following last weekend’s New York Times report of $13 million allegedly “paid out over the years to address complaints from women” about O’Reilly’s behavior. The tally as of last night was at least 11, with BMW, GlaxoSmthKline and Allstate among those joining Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai.

Tony Romo is joining CBS Sports as lead NFL game analyst. He’ll team with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson for NFL on CBS and Thursday Night Football beginning with the 2017-2018 season.

The industry shouldn’t slow down adoption of programmatic TV as the kinks get worked out, says Thuy Nguyen, who was a TV buyer for 15 years before joining Videology as VP, commercial development DETV. Instead, "Focus on the ‘rising tide lifts all boats’ mantra and band together as an industry to learn from one another," advises Nguyen. Check out Nguyen’s "watch out" moments for anyone working in advanced campaigns, in the latest Cynsiders.

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Another Daily Show correspondent is branching out on his own. Comedy Central ordered a new satire show led by Jordan Klepper as an 11:30p strip. New series debuts this fall and will serve as a Daily Show companion Monday through Thursday.

Showtime acquired the rights to Secure and Hold: The Last Days of Roger Ailes. The mini-series explores the rise and fall of the Fox News founder and is based on New York magazine writer Gabriel Sherman’s reporting of the sexual harassment scandal that led to Alies’ dismissal, last summer. Sherman’s book, The Loudest Voice in the Room, will also be used as source material.

MBC Group‘s O3 Productions and Image Nation Abu Dhabi have teamed up for film and television production. Their first project is the adaptation of author Ibraheem Abbas‘ best-selling sci-fi novel HWJN. The plan is to make an Arabic-language feature film and follow it up with a TV spinoff titled The Delusionists.

What was TV’s best spin-off? Let us know what you think in the new Cynopsis poll: http://cynopsis.com/poll/.

A second round of March Madness basketball preemptions didn’t slow Dr. Phil (3.1, Live+SD national Nielsen rating, up 3 % from the week before) in the session ending March 26. Despite being in reruns for most of the week, Phil grew 15% from last year. Live with Kelly (2.2, down 4%), which aired only taped and repackaged episodes, placed second, ahead of Ellen DeGeneres (2.1, down 5%) for a sixth straight week. Maury (1.6, steady) moved up to fourth place.

In access, Family Feud (6.5, down 6%) lost ground but continued to crush the game shows.  Wheel of Fortune (5.6, down 3%), matched its season low and remained stuck at a distant second place tie with Jeopardy (5.6, down 3%).

Reelz announced that 1.5 million viewers watched the opening night of the world premiere of The Kennedys-After Camelot miniseries.

CBS Sports and Turner Sports’ coverage of Monday night’s NCAA National Championship between North Carolina and Gonzaga on CBS scored a 14.5/24 rating/share in the metered markets, up +21% from last year and the third highest rating for the National Championship since 2005. The game peaked with a 17.4/33 rating/share from 11:30-11:45p.

Continuing its strong fall momentum into the new year, first quarter 2017 marked TLC’s highest rated quarter in Primetime in two years with W25-54 and W18-49.  The network is up nearly 20%, in primetime versus year-ago and is ranked the #7 ad supported cable network among W25-54.
