Brands that sponsor the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the US create stronger connections with consumers and drive substantial lifts across key metrics, according to research presented by NBCUniversal on Tuesday. Key findings from brand consultancy Brand Asset Valuator include:
· The Olympics creates a strong halo for official partners, who see a +117% increase in association with Olympic traits among Olympics fans. The Games have embodied brand attributes such as “authentic,” “daring,” “distinct,” “fun,” “high-performing,” “prestigious” and “social.”
· Post-sponsorship, brands across categories were, on average, able to earn substantial equity including consideration (+6%), preference (+7%), pricing power (+40%) and loyalty (+40%).
· Brands that perform strongly in BAV Group outpace the market in terms of financial performance: +127% vs. the S&P 500 over the last 15 years.
“As we prepare for the next three Games – Paris 2024, Milan-Cortina 2026 and then the highly-anticipated Los Angeles 2028 – we wanted to demonstrate the value of the Olympic Rings and the unique and powerful opportunity it presents for advertisers and sponsors,” said Dan Lovinger, President, Olympics & LA2028 Ad and Sponsorship Sales. “Brands see powerful results from their connection to the Rings, and while it’s still very early, we are pacing well ahead of where we were at the same time for recent Summer Games – and that is a true testament to the continued impact of this movement.”

Comscore has added “Pulse” to the Comscore TV measurement suite, so all stations in all 210 US media markets and 250+ networks nationally are reported on within 48 hours. “This newly launched data opens a whole new world for local markets ranked 50+ that were ‘shut out’ of in-flight campaign optimizations and pacing data previously,” write Comscore CRO Carol Hinnant in a blog post. “Comscore built Pulse with a new analytics engine that accounts for many distinct factors that could impact stability, while still using the same singular methodology that builds ratings and impressions viewing estimates zip code by zip code, market by market.”

Robert De Niro is set to star in Paramount+ series “Bobby Meritorious,” as a cop-turned-prosecutor at the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Billy Ray (“The Comey Rule”) will write and exec produce the crime drama. De Niro will also EP alongside Jane Rosenthal and Berry Welsh of Tribeca Productions. Peter Gethers is exec producing alongside Preet Bahara, former US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Havas Media Group has acquired a majority stake in media performance and data analytics agency Noise Digital. Noise Digital will maintain its brand and integrate into Havas Media Group North America under the leadership of Noah Vardon, President, Havas Media Canada and Greg Walsh, CEO of Havas Media North America.

NBC has a comedy series in development starring Steph Curry. Mockumentary “Mr. Throwback” hails from David Caspe (“Happy Endings”) and writers Matthew Libman and Daniel Libman. Universal Television is producing in association with Curry’s Unanimous Media.

Nickelodeon announced a new feature-length Halloween movie, “A Really Haunted Loud House,” set to premiere this fall on Nickelodeon and Paramount+. Additionally, Nick has ordered a second season of its hit live-action series “The Really Loud House”, which debuted in November 2022 and ranked as the top kids’ live action show on cable among Kids 6-11 during its first season.

Drama “Koreatown,” from Gene Hong (“Magnum P.I.”), Alan Yang (“Loot”) and Universal Television is in development at Amazon Studios. The drama follows two brothers who must put aside their complicated past and run a drug operation to keep their mother alive.

A biopic project centered around artist Romero Britto is in production at Muse Storytelling. “The Britto Doc” will include interviews with Andrea Bocelli, fashion designer Domenico Dolce, Gloria Estefan, DJ Khaled, Arnold Schwarzenegger and more.

Journalism content studio Project Brazen and nonfiction studio XTR have struck a co-production deal to develop Project Brazen’s podcast “The Sound: Mystery of Havana Syndrome” as an investigative docuseries. Executive produced by Project Brazen co-founders Tom Wright and Bradley Hope, as well as XTR’s Justin Lacob and Bryn Mooser, the series explores the strange health symptoms first reported by spies and diplomats in Cuba.

Casting notes: Kit Harrington (“Game of Thrones”) is joining season three of HBO’s “Industry” in a recurring role as CEO of a green tech energy company…Mark Feuerstein (“Royal Pains”) is onboard MGM+ drama “Hotel Cocaine” in a series regular role.

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

ViX reality series “Enamorandonos: La Isla” (Love is in the Air: The Island) will premiere Thursday, April 20 on the service’s free tier. Hosted by Carlos Ponce and Karina Banda, the show is a spinoff of the Unimas hit.

“The Muppets Mayhem,” starring Lilly Singh, Tahj Mowry, Saara Chaudry and The Electric Mayhem Band, launches with all episodes Wednesday, May 10 on Disney+. The puppet series follows The Electric Mayhem Band on a music-filled journey to record their first-ever studio album.

Music docuseries “Family Legacy,” featuring children of famous music artists, premieres Tuesday, April 25 on Paramount+. Quincy Brown (son of Sean “Diddy” Combs) hosts.

Season four of docuseries “Vice” kicks off Sunday, May 7 at 8p on Showtime. The new season will consist of 16 episodes, the first eight of which will debut weekly on Sundays leading to a midseason finale on Sunday, June 25. The remaining eight episodes will debut at a later date.

HGTV’s “Flipping 101 With Tarek El Moussa” returns Thursday, May 4at 8p. In the first episode, El Moussa helps two bickering brothers through their latest flip.

STREAMING

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has launched Crackle Connex, a new advertising sales platform. Drawing on the company’s portfolio of owned and operated AVOD and FAST networks and platforms, Crackle Connex offers brands a way to engage with over 80 million monthly active users. “With Crackle Connex, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment has created a leading advertising platform that simplifies the buying process of video advertising across both in-home and out-of-home screens,” said Philippe Guelton, CRO of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment and Crackle Connex. And that’s just for starters. “We have some big news to share in the coming weeks and at our Newfront presentation on May 3,” teased Guelton.

Ampersand has launched sports-focused audience segments within the company’s portfolio enabling brands to reach sports viewers in an engaged environment and glean insights into viewers’ behaviors before, during, and after sporting events. “Sports Viewer audience segments are a game-changer for the industry, reorienting some of the most important audience segments to facilitate brands’ ability to truly optimize their TV investments,” said Natasha Sinagoga, Ampersand’s VP of local sales. “By providing unique insights into the entire fan journey, Ampersand is transforming the way brands can target some of the most desired audience segments.”

Spotify and FanDuel have extended their partnership through a multi-year agreement, with the Ringer now producing content for FanDuel TV. The Ringer will license select video podcasts to FanDuel TV, including existing shows adapted for FanDuel TV and a slate of new shows.

ZOWIE, BenQ’s professional esports equipment brand, has partnered with BLAST for the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, marking the first-ever CS:GO Major to take place in France. As part of the deal, ZOWIE’s new XL2566K esports monitor will be the main display set-up for all stages of the tournament.

NHL on TNT will feature doubleheaders today and Sunday. Tampa Bay Lightning Visit New York Rangers in a 2022 Eastern Conference Finals rematch today, April 5 at 7:30p, followed by the Edmonton Oilers hosting the Anaheim Ducks at 10p. The top-seeded Boston Bruins face off against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday at 6p, followed by the Ducks hosting the Colorado Avalanche at 8:30p.

TYR Sport been named the official footwear and eyewear partner for the 2023 SBD World’s Strongest Man competition, running from April 19-23 in Myrtle Beach, SC. TYR Sport will feature a pop-u retail space within the WSM Fan Zone.

Zig Zag has secured a re-commission from CBBC for season two of docuseries “The Football Academy,” following action at Southampton Football Club.

ITV Studios and the TripleC Disabled Artists Networking Community have partnered up to launch a series of production training videos created by deaf, disabled, autistic and neurodivergent talent. The videos, which are fully accessible, are aimed at budding technicians and creatives.

UK-based distributor DCD Rights scored new sales for seasons one and two of romantic drama “Love Me.” Sales include Yes-dBS and Hot (Israel), Proximus, Pickx+ (Belgium) and streaming service CBC Gem (Canada).

Abacus Media Rights has pre-sold Stan Original drama series “Scrublands,” from production company Easy Tiger, to Sundance Now for the USA and English-speaking Canada.

Blue Ant Media announced that Love Nature, a wildlife and nature brand with linear and streaming channels, has launched in Australia as a premium, linear subscription channel on the Fetch aggregated platform.

RATINGS

Week two of Netflix’s “The Night Agent” nabbed 216.4 million hours viewed, for a total since its release of 385 million. It’s the second week the drama has taken the top spot on Netflix’s Top 10 English language shows.

Discovery, Food Network, HGTV, Investigation Discovery, TBS, TNT, TLC, Adult Swim, OWN and others in the US Networks Group at Warner Bros. Discovery closed out the first quarter of 2023 having delivered more than 128 million total viewers on average each month, and accounted for viewing by one-third of all A25-54 and A18-49 who watched cable during prime. Credit a diverse menu of content. “Whether fans are in the mood for great stories about food, home, relationships, real-life adventure, true crime and justice, or animation, they’ll always find it on one of our networks,” said Kathleen Finch, Chairman and Chief Content officer, US Networks Group, WBD.

The audience for ABC’s “The Company You Keep” keeps growing. After 35 days of viewing, the premiere of the freshman drama had delivered 7.2 million viewers, up from its Live+7 total of 4 million. In the A18-49 demo, the show jumped from 0.29 to 1.39, up 435%.
