What I Learned From My First Job: Stephanie Drachkovitch, 44 Blue Co-Founder & President
 
“My first official paying job in the industry was Production Assistant on AM NORTHWEST on KATU in Portland, Oregon! It was a live daily 9 am show that came out of GOOD MORNING AMERICA on the ABC affiliate.  My job was to warm up the audience, run teleprompter, back-time the show in the booth next to the director, gather props and do all of the testing for the weekly Household Hints segment, research segment ideas, cold-call guests, write scripts…you name it! I had to be at work by 6 am five days a week, 52 weeks a year.” 
 
What I learned:
  • If you’re on time, you’re late, and if you’re early, you’re on time.
  • You must be fearless and “act like you been there”—when you’re a PA from Portland and have to call the White House or the US Olympic Committee you just had to muster up the courage and do it!
  • If you spill red wine on a white tablecloth, you can get it out by pouring white wine on it. (my first ever Household Hint!)

EXECUTIVE MOVES
 
Comedy Central promoted Anne Harris and Christian McLaughlin to Senior Vice Presidents of Talent and Development, and Tara Schuster, Ari Pearce and Jordan Ellner to Vice Presidents.  
 
Design and animation studio Laundry opened a new location in San Francisco, headed by San Francisco Managing Director Michael Bennett. Most recently, Bennett was Director of Business Development/Managing Executive Producer at finishing company Ntropic.
 
Ameesh Paleja has joined Starz as Chief Technology Officer. Previously, Paleja served as co-founder and CEO of Atom Tickets, where he will continue serving on the company’s board and as an advisor and Head of Innovation.

James Holcomb has been tapped for the new position of Vice President, Physical Production at Crown Media Family Networks. Holcomb joins the company from The Documentary Channel, where he was COO. In addition, Angela Polk has been promoted from Director of Development to Vice President, Original Development, Specials. Heather Overton and Jennifer Phillips, formerly managers, have been upped to Directors of Development, Scripted Programming, while Jennifer Kramer has transitioned from manager to Director of Development, Unscripted Programming. “Over the past several years, we have exponentially increased and diversified our original production slate, making it imperative that we restructure and expand our department,” said Michelle Vicary, EVP, Programming and Network Publicity.
 
Entertainment marketing company 3AM hired Shawn Shahani as Director of Strategy. Shahani was previously Strategy Director at R/GA’s Hustle.

Up TV appointed Scot Safon as CMO. He’s previously held leadership posts at CNN, TNT and The Weather Channel.
 
Russell Cooper is back at INSP as VP of affiliate sales and distribution. Most recently, Russell was the director of distribution and affiliate marketing at Kroenke Sports and Entertainment.
 
Ryan Flynn is upped to SVP of current production at Bravo. Flynn has been pivotal in series including the Real Housewives series and Vanderpump Rules.
 
Amagi, a provider of cloud-based technology for media processing, named Deepakjit Singh as its CEO. He most recently served as chief innovation officer at Encompass.
