Turner Sports and CBS Sports have their announcer lineups in place for coverage of the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. Brian Anderson, Clark Kellogg and Lewis Johnson will open play with the First Four tonight starting at 6:40p, while Spero Dedes, Steve Smith, Len Elmore and Ros Gold-Onwude handle Wednesday’s microphone duties. Thursday’s assignments will see Verne Lundquist, Jim Spanarkel and Allie LaForce open the day in Buffalo with Notre Dame/Princeton at 12:15p on CBS. Ian Eagle, Steve Lavin and Evan Washburn take on Orlando’s games, Carter Blackburn, Mike Gminski, Debbie Antonelli and Lisa Byington will call from Milwaukee and Andrew Catalon, Steve Lappas and Jamie Erdahl broadcast from Salt Lake City.
Friday’s assignments feature Jim Nantz, Grant Hill, Bill Raftery and Tracy Wolfson start the action with Michigan/Oklahoma State from Indianapolis on CBS at 12:15p. Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, Dan Bonner and Dana Jacobson handle Tulsa’s action, Brian Anderson, Chris Webber and Lewis Johnson take on games from Greenville, while Spero Dedes, Steve Smith, Len Elmore and Ros Gold-Onwude will oversee Sacramento’s games.
Turner Sports and CBS Sports’ joint coverage of the tournament will include the return of NCAA March Madness Confidential, delivering exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to NCAA Tournament teams with this year’s crop set to include: Oregon, Florida, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Wisconsin and Virginia Tech. Production crews have been embedded with the teams beginning Selection Sunday and features will run during studio coverage across TBS, CBS, TNT and truTV throughout the Tournament, as well as on NCAA.com.
Billie Jean King sold her majority ownership of Mylan World TeamTennis to Mark Ein, founder and owner of the Washington Kastles, and Fred Luddy, owner of the San Diego Aviators. King will still retain a minority stake of the organization and continue as the majority owner of the Philadelphia Freedoms franchise. With the sale, Ein will become Chairman while Ilana Kloss will remain in her position as CEO and Commissioner through 2017. The new ownership group will look to leverage their entrepreneurial success and experience building two of the WTT’s leading franchises to create compelling growth opportunities for the league and its partners.
SCORE International unveiled an agreement with El Rey Network to carry the four-race 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship in Baja California as well as the special SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Experience and SCORE Baja 1000 qualifying in Las Vegas. SCORE TV shows will continue to air internationally through syndication.
The New York Racing Association is expanding its partnership FOX Sports, announcing that the new deal will now see additional live shows broadcast across all three NYRA-operated tracks. Overall, 46 live shows will now be shown on FS2, covering Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course and building on last year’s debut of Saratoga Live. April will see the channel serve up a trop of live Saturday shows, beginning April 8 at 3p. "All of us at FOX Sports are proud to expand our relationship with NYRA and to present more of the best of thoroughbred racing with additional shows from Aqueduct and Belmont," said Michael Mulvihill, executive vice president of research, league operations and strategy for FOX Sports. "Wagering on horse racing is trending up and more races are available on national TV than ever before. We’re happy to be part of NYRA’s strategy for the continued growth of this great game."
Duke/North Carolina once again drummed up viewers for ESPN as their ACC Semifinal game at 7p last Friday drew a 1.9 overnight rating, with a streaming average audience of 109,000 viewers and a total of 387,000 people streaming 16,500,000 minutes. The overnight is ESPN’s best for conference championship semifinal game on record. The Blue Devils/Tar Heels overnight was up 111% from last year’s first ACC semifinal game.
Meanwhile, the National Invitation Tournament hits the ESPN networks with the first round starting tonight with Syracuse/UNC Greensboro on ESPN at 7p. Rich Hollenberg and Mark Plansky have the call.
Tonight at 7:30p, NHL Network will televise the 1980’s documentary The Boys on the Bus that followed the Edmonton Oilers from their loss in the 1986 Stanley Cup Playoffs through their third Stanley Cup in 1987. Meanwhile, the channel announced that NHL Network’s E.J. Hradek and Steve Mears will report from Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas tomorrow and Wednesday.
WWE announced today that Eric LeGrand, a former standout for the Rutgers University football team turned motivational speaker, will receive the third annual Warrior Award. Named after WWE Hall of Famer The Ultimate Warrior. The honor is presented to an individual who has exhibited unwavering strength and perseverance and who lives life with the courage and compassion that embodies the indomitable spirit of The Ultimate Warrior and will be presented live on WWE Network at 8p on March 31 while USA Network will also broadcast a special presentation of the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 3 at 11p.

The IOC is tapping Publicis to oversee its global brand campaign for the @018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, according to multiple reports. Both Publicis UK and Publicis New and its digital agency Poke will be involved, where they will develop broadcast, digital activation and integrated Olympic channel content to promote the event next February.
Castrol announced that it locked in a multi-year sponsorship agreement with the NFL that renews its status as the league’s official motor oil sponsor. To kick off the renewed partnership, Castrol will feature the NFL shield logo on select Castrol packaged products in the coming months and maintain category exclusivity in the motor oil and related lubricants field.
In support of NHL Greener Rinks, a league-wide initiative that measures and evaluates the environmental impact of community rinks across North America, the NHL launched NHL.com/GreenerRinks that will serve as a centerpiece of its NHL Green Week activities. In addition, the league and its member clubs will focus on its Recycle the Game initiative with fans encouraged to get involved through green tech and other initiatives.
The second round of the 2017 World Baseball Classic in San Diego will offer a series of on-field and off-field activities on March 16-17 offering food offerings from seven of the original participating World Baseball Classic countries, including poutine (Canada), fried rice bowl (China), Cubano sandwiches (Cuba), spicy Italian sausages (Italy), hummus plate (Israel), yakisoba noodle bowl (Japan), and street tacos (Mexico). There will also be country-specific entertainment performances, such as Lion Dancers (China), Manny Cepeda Trio (Cuba), Roman Holiday (Italy), Taiko Drummers (Japan), Ballet Folklorico and Mariachi (Mexico), and a “Todo Mundo” performance representing Latin America.
ESPN Films and ESPN Audio announced that their new collaboration, 30 for 30 Podcasts, will launch in June. The series will offer “original, high-quality sports stories in the likeness of the acclaimed 30 for 30 documentaries, but made exclusively for audio.” Each 30 for 30 Podcast episode will explore and report on a new sports story that will be a combination of original interviews and archival sound. “ESPN Films is continuing to push boundaries in the storytelling space, and we’re excited to further evolve the 30 for 30 brand,” said Libby Geist, vice president and executive producer, ESPN Films and Original Content. “These audio documentaries will break new ground for ESPN while also bringing our signature long-form archival-based approach to the podcasting arena.”
SendtoNews Video reports that comScore ranked STN as 2nd in total video views in sports media for January with an uptick in videos viewed by 8.7% to 119,875,000. “It’s nice to see the efforts of our team and our partners being independently validated by our comScore rankings” says SendtoNews Exec. Chairman Matthew Watson. “Local news sites remain the go to source for sports news and we are thrilled to provide the video platform and content to engage and monetize viewers.”

IMPACT Wrestling announced digital upticks stemming from its inaugural show that aired on PopTV on March 9, as the IMPACT Wrestling YouTube channel and other social media outlets drew more than 2.4 million views through the weekend, marking a rise of 275% over the same period last week.
Blizzard is bringing prizes to fans of its collegiate series Heroes of the Dorm. Fans who fill out a bracket will have a shot at taking home $10,000 as well as a challenge portrait and a Cheerleader Kerrigan Bundle. Heroes of the Dorm launches on March 18, with the finals taking place on April 8 in Las Vegas.
The SXSW Conference will be the come of a Street Fighter V Invitational event titled Fighters Underground that runs March 16-18. The tournament will feature a $20,000 prize pool, according to ESPN, and run parallel to a Hearthstone major and a Rocket League event.
GINX esports TV continues to expand. The channel announced plans to take root in the MENA region via OSN marking the first 24-hour competitive video gaming channel to showcase the emerging esports phenomenon in the area. In addition, the channel is hitting South Africa where it will stream on DStv Now and supersport.com starting May 1. The deal also includes selected GINX esports TV content being simulcast on the SuperSport channels.
Esports organization Team NP announced a partnership with Netsurance, the organization’s first Canadian sponsor. The deal also marks the company’s first move into esports.
The NBA announced that Jason Glen Cahilly will step down as the league’s Chief Strategic and Financial Officer on June 30. Cahilly will continue to serve as a senior adviser to Silver. “Jason has played an integral role in the NBA’s growth over the past four years,” said Silver. “He has been an agent of change in helping us set strategic and investment priorities for the league on a global basis. Jason has also developed a talented team including J.B. Lockhart, who is being promoted to Chief Financial Officer. We are pleased that Jason will continue as an adviser to me, and fully expect he will enjoy great success in the next phase of his career.”
