IN THE NEWS
Netflix has renewed “You” for a fifth and final season. Penn Badgley will return to play the thriller’s serial killer, but showrunner Sera Gamble is stepping down, replaced by exec producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo. “You” originated on “Lifetime,” and moved to the steamer for season two.
“Arrested Development,” slated to leave Netflix this month, will remain on the streamer after all. Netflix and 20th Television have struck a new licensing agreement for the show, which aired for three seasons on Fox before moving to Netflix for seasons four and five.
Vice TV ordered six additional seasons of anthology series “Icons Unearthed,” for a total of ten. “We’ve had the opportunity to tell some incredible stories in ‘Icons Unearthed,’ and to have six more seasons of storytelling coming up is a testament to how well the show has been received,” said Nacelle Company CEO Brian Volk-Weiss. Season four premiered March 7.
“Grey’s Anatomy” has been renewed by ABC for a 20th season. Executive producer Meg Marinis will take over as showrunner from Krista Vernoff, who is stepping down from “Grey’s” and its spinoff “Station 19.”
Fox News has fired Abby Grossberg, the producer who was put on administrative leave after alleging she was coerced into delivering “shaded and/or incomplete” testimony in Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation against FNC. “Our attorneys advised Ms. Grossberg that, while she was free to file whatever legal claims she wished, she was in possession of our privileged information and was not authorized to disclose it publicly. We were clear that if she violated our instructions, Fox would take appropriate action including termination,” said Fox News said in a statement. “Ms. Grossberg ignored these communications and chose to file her complaint without taking any steps to protect those portions containing Fox’s privileged information. We will continue to vigorously defend Fox against Ms. Grossberg’s unmeritorious legal claims, which are riddled with false allegations against Fox and our employees.”
Also not going quietly is Victoria Alanso, let go from her job as President, Physical and Postproduction, VFX and Animation Production for Disney’s Marvel Studios, reportedly because of her efforts to promote Amazon Studios’ “Argentina,1985.” “The idea that Victoria was fired over a handful of press interviews relating to a personal passion project about human rights and democracy that was nominated for an Oscar and which she got Disney’s blessing to work on is absolutely ridiculous,” said Alanso’s lawyer. “Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced.” Responded Disney, “It’s unfortunate that Victoria is sharing a narrative that leaves out several key factors concerning her departure, including an indisputable breach of contract and a direct violation of company policy.” |
