Demi Lovato will make her directorial debut in “Child Star” (wt) for Hulu. The feature documentary will deconstruct the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through some of the world’s most famous former child stars, including Lovato. The project is being produced by Michael D. Ratner’s OBB Pictures, a division of OBB Media; Lovato’s production company, DLG, and Scooter Braun’s SB Projects.
A date has been set for The 2023 Billboard Music Awards: Sunday, November 19. It marks a return to fall for the show produced by Dick Clark Productions. NBC has opted not to continue airing the show, so a search has begun to find a new network to broadcast the ceremony.
Nielsen’s monthly report The Gauge revealed that average TV viewership was down by 5.1% overall in February, led by a 9.2% decrease in broadcast viewing. Sports broadcast viewing was responsible for the bulk of that, taking a 65% hit month-over-month. Cable was down 5.7%, while streaming only showed a 1% decrease. The decline from January to February remained in line with last year’s 5.7% for the same period. Meanwhile, ad-supported video-on-demand service Tubi reached 1 % of total TV viewing for the month in February 2023, making it the most watched FAST (free ad supported television) in the U.S.

The pair will work to develop talent from Africa through their respective production companies, Green Door Pictures and EbonyLife Media.
AMC Networks invites horror fans to celebrate Halfway to Halloween. Shudder’s annual event features new series “Slasher: Ripper,” “The Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween TV Special,” a new season of “The Last Drive with Joe Bob Briggs,” and new exclusive films “Kids vs. Aliens” and “From Black.” Programming begins in April.
Charter is launching Spectrum Community Center Assist programs at 15 new locations in 2023, as the company expands its $30 million initiative to boost job training in neighborhoods across its service area. It kicks off this year’s SCCA schedule at a community center rebuilding event on March 25 in Tampa, FL with the Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, and will be followed by similar events in 20 other states throughout the year.

Embassy Row, Werner Entertainment and Game Show Enterprises Studios have joined forces to produce a pilot of classic game show “I’ve Got a Secret” available for network and syndication. The show will be hosted by Katie Nolan, a recent commentator for Apple TV+’s Friday Night Baseball and short-term content creator at NBC Sports.
A series based on the 1997 film “Gattaca,” starring Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, is being developed at Showtime. “Homeland” veterans Alex Gansa and Howard Gordan are attached as executive producers. The pair co-created the project with Craig Borten (“Dallas Buyers Club”). The plot for the series is being kept under wraps.
“The Crown’s” Erin Doherty nabbed a new role. She’ll appear in Steven Knight’s Disney+ period drama “A Thousand Blows.”
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
HGTV doubles down on its star power for the return of “Home Town Takeover,” debuting Sunday April 23 at 8p. Ben and Erin Napier (“Home Town”) and Dave and Jenny Marrs (“Fixer to Fabulous”) will lend their expertise and head to Fort Morgan, CO for the new season of whole-town renovations.
Political thriller drama “The Diplomat” makes its Netflix debut on Thursday, April 20. The series was created by Debora Cahn (“Homeland,” “The West Wing”) and stars Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, the new US Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
“The Lesson Is Murder” bows on Hulu on Thursday, March 23. The docuseries follows criminology professor and former FBI Special Agent Dr. Bryanna Fox, who teaches a class on the minds of murderers.
After nearly two years, Season 3 of comedy series “The Other Two” premieres on Thursday, May 4 on HBO Max. Written, directed and executive produced by “Saturday Night Live” co-head writers Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider, the series stars Drew Tarver and Helene Yorke as struggling siblings Cary and Brooke.
Telemundo invites viewers to witness Juan Rivers and his wife Brenda renew their vows. The live special, “Bonda de Famosos: Juan Rivera y Brenda Juntos Por Siempre,” airs Sunday, March 19 at 10p. The event will feature special guests including celebrity housemates of “La Casa de los Famosos” as well as family and friends.
“The Monkees” is joining AXS TV as part of its new “Retro Night” Friday lineup starting Friday, April 7. Other programming to be featured includes trailers form the 60s, 70s and 80s in the new series “Nothing But Trailers Flashback” and a new season of “The Very, Very Best of the 80s.”
“Storming Caesars Palace” debuts on Monday, March 20 of PBS’s Independent Lens to honor Women’s History Month. (Check local listings.) The documentary tells the story of welfare rights activist Ruby Duncan, who led a grassroots movement for basic income guarantee for mothers.
“Personality Crisis: One Night Only” bows Friday, April 14 at 8p on Showtime. From Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese, the film unveils the many faces of music legend David Johansen of the New York Dolls.
X League, the top-tiered women’s football league, has teamed with NEO Studios on an all-access docuseries chronicling the league’s inaugural season, seen through the eyes of the athletes leading the charge. Backed by NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka and Sam Gordan, the first woman to win an NFL Honors Award, X League officially kicks off in summer 2024. NEO will be documenting the formation of the league and all the events leading up to it.
Davina McCall is set to host “The Romance Retreat” (wt). She’ll oversee a UK country house featuring single parents from all walks of life looking for true love. The show mimics “Love Island,” but with older adults.
