Brunico Communications, operator of the Banff World Media Festival, has acquired the National Association of Television Program Executives. Brunico said it plans to invest “significant resources” to build the brand, in particular NATPE Global.
Pay-TV service Evoca has shut down. “We are grateful for your support as we challenged the media monopolies to make regional sports and local content more accessible and affordable,” Evoca told subscribers. “Unfortunately, we could not secure the funding that we need to continue operations into 2023.” Launched in 2020 using ATSC 3.0 broadcast instead of internet, Evoca warned early last month that the company needed additional resources to continue operating in 2023.

STREAMING
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” topped the list of Netflix’s English-language films the week of December 26 with 127.25 million hours viewed. With its distribution agreement with AMC Networks expired, FuboTV has removed AMC, AMC Premiere, BBC America, BBC World News, El Gourmet, Mas Chic, IFC, Sundance TV and We TV from its lineup. “We are focused on super-serving our passionate sports customers,” said FuboTV in a statement. “As a sports-first live TV streaming platform, Fubo’s mission is to provide leading sports, news and entertainment content while keeping costs reasonable for consumers.”
Ad tech company Blockboard announced a new partnership with Comcast-owned FreeWheel that makes FreeWheel’s CTV inventory available to all of Blockboard’s advertising clients. “The rise and interest in CTV and all the great content that is available on this platform also comes with an additional challenge: to create, build and maintain trust across the ad ecosystem,” said Matt Wasserlauf, CEO and Co-Founder of Blockboard. “Working with FreeWheel provides the most direct and trusted path to that inventory and ensures that their advertising journey begins with quality content and quality impressions.”
SPORTS
The “Monday Night Football” game postponed after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamilton suffered a cardiac arrest on the field will not take place this week. “The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date,” said the NFL, after the incident that left players in tears, and spurred millions of dollars in donations to the philanthropic foundation Hamilton set up while in college. “The league has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule. We will continue to provide additional information as it becomes available.” At press time, Hamlin remained in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
