Cynopsis: Kids!

11/29/06

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, November  29, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.

HBO has picked up the Latin American rights to EM.TV’s animated series Dogstar, from distributor Comarex. HBO Family Latin America is slated to launch Dogstar in spring 2007.  Produced by EM.TV’s Avg. World Pictures Pty Ltd, Dogstar is set in space and follows the adventures of three kids as they search for a treasure chest filled with dogs.

National Amusements will launch CyGameZ, an interactive gaming venue, with an event later today at the Showcase Cinemas Ann Arbor in Ypsilanti, Michigan – and really who doesn’t like to say Ypsilanti!?!  Designed to be a family-friendly venue, CyGameZ features state of the art equipment and games.  Additionally, the arena will host game tournaments with top gamers from around the country.  Sponsors include Intel, Alienware and Pepsi.

The CW will bring back Beauty and the Geek for a third season beginning January 3 with a special two-hour premiere at 8p. Then on January 10, the series will air in its regular time period on Wednesdays at 8p with encores airing on Sundays at 9p. The CW has ordered eight, one-hour episodes from fox21 and produced by Katalyst Films and 3 Ball Productions.

The premiere of MTV’s The Real World: Denver last Wednesday night delivered 5.3 million P12-34 viewers, an increase of 10% more than last season’s Key West debut. The new Real World made MTV the most watched cable network for the night between 8-11p among P12-34.

MARKETING/LICENSING

The Game Factory has inked a worldwide publishing deal with Taffy Entertainment to market a video game based on the animated series Pet Alien for the Nintendo DSTM system.  The game will be released in 2007, simultaneously around the world.  The game is being developed by SHIN’EN and will be rendered in 3D.  The Pet Alien TV series is produced by Mike Young Productions, LLC, in conjunction with Moonscoop, Telegael, and Europool in Germany

Toontown Online, the kid/family massively multiplayer online game from Disney Online, is now available for Intel-based Mac users.  Until now only PC users were able to access Toontown Online and its multi-million PC-based characters that are created throughout the game.  In addition, Disney Online has added a number of new “gags” that can be unlocked as players make their way around.  Both PC and Mac users can down load Toontown for $9.95/per month, with other subscription packages and rates available.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Stephen Friedman has been promoted to EVP of mtvU. He will continue to work out of the New York office and manage the 24-hour college network as well as the College Publisher network of 500 online college newspapers. Stephen is also charged with growing mtvU’s reach in the college market. He reports to Christina Norman, President, MTV.

GameTap has hired Adam Naide as Director/Relationship Marketing and Cameron Payne as Director/Product Management. Both will be based in Atlanta, reporting to David Reid, VP/Marketing.

RATINGS

Cartoon Network earned the highest Thanksgiving Day total day delivery and ratings in its history last Thursday.  Leading the way was Cartoon Network’s premiere of Good Wilt Hunting (7-8p), an animated movie based on Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, which delivered the largest K6-11 (1,176,000), Boys 6-11 (795,000) and Boys 2-11 (929,000) audiences of the day across all the cable networks, with each of those demos improving vs. the same 2005 holiday time period by +100%, +125% and +70% respectively, according to the early Nielsen Media Research data.
