Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 22, 2008 and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

BabyTV inks a new carriage deal in France, making the channel available on Buoygues Telecom‘s new IPTV platform as of this week.  BabyTV will be available on Buoygues TV Extended Basic Tier, the xDSL TV offer.  BabyTV first debuted in France on TPS in 2005, followed by Numericable in 2006, Alice, OrangeTV, Neufcegetel and Freebox in 2007/2008.

Preschool channel JimJam, a joint venture of Chellomedia and HIT Entertainment, is grows across Russia with a new launch on the NTV-PLUS satellite platform. The channel will be dubbed into the local language and first launched into Russia recently on the Akado platform.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films pick up the rights to a family movie project about a family that winds up lost while on Safari in Africa and must go up against a wild animals and evil doers as they make their way back to safety, per Variety. The yet to be titled movie is being penned by Jeff Lowell (Hotel for Dogs, John Tucker Must Die), and will be executive produced by Matt Lopez (the new Escape to Witch Mountain), with Double Feature FilmsMichael Shamberg and Stacey Sher producing.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Taffy Entertainment welcomes two new co-producers, Atlantyca Entertainment and Studio 100, for its animated preschool series Dive Olly Dive, which heads into a second season of 26×30.  Atlantyca and Studio 200 join existing Dive Olly Dive co-producers, Mike Young Productions (MYP), KI.KA, ARD (Germany), Telegael (Ireland) and GDC (China).  Recent deals for the preschool series include a publishing deal with Atlantyca, an apparel deal with Embassy (France), and kids’ charms deal with Prime (France).

Boomerang will host Bedrock ‘N’ Roll, a marathon tribute to the best musical moments of The Flintstones, with 15 favorite episodes of the series on Sunday, October 26, 8a-11p.  The best part of this marathon is, of course, all of the special guests that appeared in the series and in these episodes, including Ann-Margaret, James Darren and composer/musician/singer/actor Hoagy Carmichael.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Club Penguin (www.clubpenguin.com) celebrates its third anniversary with the launch of new toy line of internet-connected products, including plush, mini-figures and play sets.  A new limited edition plush figure will be released every eight weeks, each of which comes with a coin featuring a code that kids can use to redeem unique virtual items online.  The Club Penguin toys will be available at Toys “R” Us stores and at www.toysrus.com, Disney Stores, Disney Theme Parks, www.disneyshopping.com and the Club Penguin shop online.  Additionally, Disney will release the new Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force game for Nintendo DS next month.

Marvelous Media launches its new HD DVD series How’d They Build That? with the first two titles Fire Truck and Big Truck on November 18, 2008.  Designed for K4+, future titles in the series will include School Bus, Garbage Truck, Locomotive, Big Earthmover, Concrete Mixer Truck, and Military Machines.

STONE SOUP

In an effort to increase awareness of the risks related to lead exposure and in conjunction with National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, October 19-25, 2008, Sesame Workshop re-launches Sesame Street Lead Away!  Originally released in 1996, this updated bilingual (English and Spanish) online resource (www.sesamestreet.org/lead) offers kids/families information about the health issues related to lead, including where it can be found and age-appropriate strategies to help prevent lead exposure.  The Sesame Street video is also available for the first time on DVD and is also available on iTunes, part of the Learn Along with Sesame series.

RATINGS

Nickelodeon‘s premiered season three of The Naked Brothers Band with an hour-long special episode on Saturday, October 18, at 8:30p, which was watched by 4 million total viewers, a record for the series.  The special was the number one live-action show for the week of October 12-18 on all broadcast and cable TV, among K2-11 2.4 million, K6-11 2.0 million and tweens 9-14 1.7 million.
