Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 22, 2009, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Tonight’s Premieres:
Science Channel: City 2.0 at 9p
The Style Network: Dress My Nest at 11p

TV viewers this summer won’t watch former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich navigating his way through a Costa Rican jungle after all. According to the Chicago Tribune, a US District Court Judge denied Blagojevich’s request to change the travel conditions of his bail to appear as a contestant on NBC’s I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! Despite the show’s producer Granada America offering to pay for a personal monitor for Blagojevich, the Judge said his appearing on the show was “”a bad idea” and that he needed to stay close and pay attention to the case against him involving multiple political corruption charges. As Blagojevich entered the hearing yesterday he said being a part of the NBC reality show was “a way to earn a living and support my children” and to the Tribune he said, “It’s not my first choice, but it’s a living.”

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Times are tough in the online advertising space. Yahoo reported a 78% drop in net income, which totaled $118 million for Q1 compared to $537 million a year earlier. Revenue dropped 13% to $1.58 billion, down from $1.8 billion Q1 2008. Double digit declines in display advertising and revenues from affiliated sites didn’t help. Even search revenue on the company’s owned-and-operated sites dropped by 3% year-over-year to $399 million. As expected the company announced another wave of job cuts that will shed an additional 5% of its workforce in order to, in the words of new CEO Carol Bartz, “streamline our structure globally.”   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: The BBC’s CBBC unveils two more new original kid/tween-targeted entertainment shows:

  • Keep Your Enemies Close (26×30)  is a new game show that brings friends and enemies together.  At the start of each show four sets of friends are split up and teamed with their ‘enemy.’  The newly mixed teams must co-operate as they compete in rounds including various physical and mental challenges. The teams are whittled down until only one duo remain for the final round, where they will then be reunited with their best friends and go head to head with their rivals.  The series is produced by BBC Productions, Children’s.
  • The School of Silence (13×28)  is a new game show that tests the ability of kid contestants to keep quiet.  Each episode pits four kids against one another as they perform challenges aimed at making them laugh, scream, shout and generally make noise  but if they make even the slightest sound … they are out of the game.  The School of Silence is produced by Lucky Day Productions.
