Cynopsis: Kids!
09/30/08
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, September 30, 2008, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios ink a distribution agreement under which Paramount will distribute Marvel’s next five self-produced feature films worldwide. The deal, an extension of the original pact between the two forged by Paramount’s CEO and Chairman Brad Grey, includes theatrical distribution in foreign territories previously serviced by Marvel through local distribution entities (Japan, Germany, France, Spain and Australia/New Zealand). The live-action movies included as part of this deal include Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010), Thor (July 16, 2010), The First Avenger: Captain America (May 6, 2011), and The Avengers (July 16, 2011. The distribution deal also includes Iron Man 3. The only exception in to the new deal is that Telemunchen will distribute Iron Man 2 in Germany, according to the terms of a previous agreement it had with Marvel.
International content distributor Entertainment One (E1) will acquire Canada’s DHX Media, the latter of which owns production companies Decode Entertainment, Halifax Films and Studio B Productions, in a deal valued at US $66 million. Moving forward (following the approval of shareholders) the combined businesses will operate under the E1 company name, with Darren Throop, currently CEO/E1 appointed as CEO of the enlarged group. Key senior management of DHX will remain at DHX, which will form part of the TV division of the merged companies, headed by Patrice Theroux, E1’s President/Filmed Entertainment. DHX is primarily an international producer/distributor of kid’s programming and interactive content with a library of some 2,200 hours of content. E1, which also owns the US-based Koch Entertainment, has operations in the US, UK, Canada, Holland and Belgium.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Nancy McKeon (Facts of Life) will play the recurring role as Sonny’s mom.
Director/actor Kenneth Branagh is reportedly in negotiations to direct a live-action movie adaptation of Thor for Marvel Studios, per Variety. Based on the Marvel Comics series, Thor is currently slated for release on June 16, 2010, and will be distributed by Paramount (see top item).
