Good morning. It’s Tuesday, October 3, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing. 

Jetix Europe has ordered up a second season of the flash animated Pucca from Studio B Productions.  Studio B is set to begin production this month on the new set of 39 seven-minute episodes, which are scheduled to air on Jetix Europe from 2008.  The Pucca TV series is developed by Jetix Europe, based on characters created by Korea’s Vooz Co. Ltd., which also serves as co-producer on the project.  Pucca currently airs on Jetix blocks on Toon Disney US and Japan, as well as three Jetix channels in Latin America.  Additionally, the Jetix block in both the UK and Netherlands have been running a trial VOD service for Pucca via their websites since July 2006.  Traditional broadcasters that have licensed the series across 14 countries include Antena 3 (Spain), RAI (Italy) and Channel 7 (Australia).

DHX Media Ltd. and Alliance Atlantis is moving ahead with a second season of 40 new 10m episodes of the stop-motion animated preschool series, Lunar Jim.  Season two has already been picked up by CBC, SRC and BBC Kids in Canada, as well as Cbeebies in the UK.  Lunar Jim is co-produced by Halifax Film, a unit of DHX Media, and Alliance Atlantis.  Fisher Price introduced its Lunar Jim line of toys in Canada and the UK this past August 2006.

TV-Loonland and The Illuminated Film Company signed a follow-up co-production deal for a second season of the preschool series Little Princess.  Like the previous agreement for the series, TV-Loonland has acquired the worldwide rights to distribute it across all media.  Network’s that have indicated that they will pick up the second season includes Five (UK) and ABC (Australia).  Five will debut season one of Little Princess this month as part of its preschool programming block, Milkshake!  Other Pre-sales for the show include ATV (Hong Kong) and M-Net (South Africa).  On other Little Princess news, the series will make its first appearance at London’s Brand Licensing Show this month.  Little Princess is based on picture books by Tony Ross.


BBC Worldwide has appointed Dimensional Branding Group (DBG) as the exclusive North American licensing agency for The Secret Show, an animated series from Collingwood O’Hare.  DBG will work closely with BBC Worldwide and Nicktoons Network, which will premiere the series in the US January 2007, to develop a licensing campaign for North America.  Targeted to K7-12, The Secret Show is BBC commission and distributed by BBC Worldwide, which retains the cross-media rights to distribute the series worldwide, as well as merchandising, publishing and home video rights.

The N has teamed up with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks to offer viewers the opportunity to voice their opinion during episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation via an interactive voting/polling technology.  The new Degrassi Interactive Program will allow viewers who subscribe to Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks in select markets to use their remote controls to interact with the show in real time, voting on everything from their favorite characters and storylines.  The first set of four poll questions was included in the Degrassi 1hr-long season six premiere Friday, September 29, and two questions will be included forth coming episodes through November 17.  The series airs regularly on The N, Friday nights at 8p.

Galleon Entertainment, an intellectual property owner/developer/manager, will attend London’s Brand Licensing 2006 this week with a number of properties available to licensees with a number of properties including:

  • Skunk Fu! (52 x 13′)`- an animated series targeted to K4-11.  The first licensed product based on the series is slated to be available in 2007, beginning with merchandise from publisher Imagineire.  Skunk Fu is produced by Cartoon Saloon and distributed worldwide by Cake Entertainment.  A part owner of the series, Galleon also holds the global licensing and merchandising rights for the property.  Skunk Fu is set to air in 2007 on BBC (UK), Super RTL (Germany), Canal J (France), ABC (Australia), TG4 (Ireland), SVT (Sweden) and RTBH (Belgium) among others.
  • Hoo Ha House – currently being developed as a CGI animated series for preschool, Hoo Ha House is based on books created/written by Jo Marsden and published by Imagineire.  The property follows the adventures of the Hoo Has, which are everyday household items that come to life.  (

  • The Fomorian – targeted to tween boys, The Fomorian is a fantasy story about a young teen who discovers he is a descendant to what was previously believed to be a mythological race.  A publishing property, The Fomorian stories are created/written by Dr. Roderick O’Sullivan.
  • The Mysti Show – a tween girl targeted publishing/multi-media property that includes a TV series airing on BBC.  Mysti is a Fairy that comes to earth to be a regular teenager, but finds that she must use some magic now and again.  The Mysti Show books are published by Imagineire.
  • The Pet Poet’s Club – a series of books and online components featuring pets, photos and all sorts of poetry  targeted to adults.  The first book The Pet Poets Club Volume 1 was published last month, with two additional titles slated to be published March 2007.  (

Nickelodeon has partnered with Produce for Kids, a group aiming to educate kids on the benefits of healthy eating, to promote healthier lifestyles through a promotional campaign in the produce sections of stores nationwide.  The campaign, which the runs now through November 5, includes promotional messaging, signage and features Dora the Explorer and highlights the network’s health/wellness centric initiative Let’s Just Play.  Participating retailers include Meijer, Publix Super Markets and Golub Corporation, which owns/operates Price Chopper grocery stores.  Retailers will provide support for the program through advertising in circulars.  The campaign will also be cross promoted on Nickelodeon’s Let’s Just Play web site ( www.nick.com/letsjustplay ) and the Produce for Kids web site ( www.ProduceForKids.org ).


Chris Lacroix has been upped to VP, Radio Disney.  He will report to Jill Casagrande, SVP and GM, Radio Disney Network.  Lacroix will now be responsible for clarifying Radio Disney’s strategic brand and aligning both on-air and off-air marketing efforts to assure continuity with the brand.  Additionally, he will work with Ad Sales and Programming on promotions and with local radio stations to provide the marketing support to help each market reach local objectives.  Prior to this Lacroix, who joined Disney in 2000, had been VP/Marketing, Disney Channel.  Previously, he was Creative Director and Director/Entertainment Marketing, Communicator Marketing Worldwide.  Go Chris!

Ashley Maidy has been promoted to VP/Softlines, Sony Pictures Consumer Products.  She will continue to report to SVP, Juli Boylan.  Maidy has been Executive Director overseeing apparel/accessories, back-to-school, health and Beauty, and branded foods categories.  Previously, Maidy toiled for Saban Entertainment where she developed/managed the apparel/accessories for properties including Power Rangers.
