Good Morning, it’s Tuesday, March 6, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
NBC Universal Television has signed a three-year, first-look development pact with production company BermanBraun headed by entertainment executives Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun. The pair will develop all forms of television programming across all dayparts including scripted, unscripted, primetime, daytime, cable and syndication for a first-look to NBC Universal Television’s properties NBC, USA, SCI FI Channel and Telemundo.
Tonight’s Premiere:
CW: Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search For The Next Doll at 9p
Tonight’s Finales:
MNT: Wicked Wicked Games at 8p, Watch Over Me at 9p
~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
ABC has pulled Knights of Prosperity off the schedule effective immediately, and slotted in a repeat of According to Jim on Wednesday nights at 830p.
Starz Entertainment has added a new weekly comedy block of original series called The Starz Comedy Hour which debuts April 18 at 11p and airs for 10 weeks:
<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Head Case – Alexandra Wentworth plays the brash, cutting-edge therapist Dr. Elizabeth Goode to elite Hollywood celebrities, including Jason Priestley, Jane Kaczmarek, Fred Willard and Alanis Morrisette plus others.
<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>Martin Lawrence’s 1st Amendment Stand-up – an uncensored comedy stand-up show featuring new young comedians and hosted by comedian Doug Williams, along with DJ Biz Markie.
<!–[if !supportLists]–>· <!–[endif]–>The Bronx Bunny Show – an unconventional talk show starring two foul-mouthed animals – Bronx Bunny and Teddy T, a politically incorrect panda. The pair invites celebrities to their lousy East Los Angeles apartment to ask them the questions that other talk shows don’t ask. Appearances by celebrities include those by Howie Mandel, Joely Fisher, Eric Roberts and more.
DIY Network has added new programs to its primetime line-up that feature both master home improver, Bob Vila and master carpenter, Norm Abram. Starting March 12, DIY Network will be the exclusive cable home for This Old House airing every night at 7p and 730p as well as Bob Vila’s Home Again series airing every night at 8p. Then beginning March 17, The New Yankee Workshop will air on Saturdays at 830p and also at 9p.
And after many requests, Cynopsis Weekender College Edition is coming back! We did this once before in November 2005 and it was wonderfully successful, so we’ll do it again on April 26, 2007. We will accept 350 word editorials from current college students all around the country and the world. The four most insightful, original, humorous and/or well-written pieces on any topic related to television will be included in a future edition of Weekender, and each winning editorial will be awarded a prize of $350. College Professors, moms and dads – encourage your students to participate! All entries should be emailed no later than midnight on Friday, April 20th to me at cynthia@cynopsis.com, SUBJECT: Weekender College Edition. Students – be sure to include your name, age, college, college year, and major (if you know it), and how you can be contacted. Good luck!
~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
NBC has invited talk show host Jerry Springer to be the new host of America’s Got Talent when the variety/talent competition show returns for another season this summer. America’s Got Talent is produced by FremantleMedia North America and SYCO TV.
Casting Notes:
- Scott Wolf has been cast in the ABC comedy pilot, so far untitled and from Sachs/Judah, about colleagues at a large lawfirm. His character heads up a litigation team.
- ABC‘s comedy pilot Carpoolers from ABC TV Studio and DreamWorks TV has now completed casting of three of the four carpoolers – Jerry O’Connell, Fred Goss and Jerry Minor.
- CBS‘ pilot project Babylon Fields from 20th Century Fox TV where dead people just don’t stay that way, has cast Ray Stevenson in the lead role as the town’s top law enforcement officer.
- ABC drama pilot Football Wives from ABC TV Studio has added James Van Der Beek as a rookie football player on Ving Rhames team. In the role of some of the wives are Gabrielle Union, Lucy Lawless and Kiele Sanchez.
The CW has ordered pilot project Eight Days a Week, produced by Hazy Mills for CBS Paramount, about four twenty-somethings who work for bigshot New York executives and decide to work together to make it big themselves.
~ BROADBAND & DIGITAL ~
On Mondays for the next four weeks, The CW will make the latest episode of America’s Next Top Model available free with limited commercials on the network’s online video destination at http://video.cwtv.com, the day after airing the Sunday encores. This show joins other CW series that are streamed at this site such as Supernatural, Veronica Mars, One Tree Hill, Everybody Hates Chris, All of Us, Girlfriends and The Game.
Univision Online, Inc., a division of Univision Communications Inc. has received a renewal of its accreditation of key traffic measurements on Univision.com from the Media Rating Council (MRC). Univision.com was the first Spanish-language web site to receive accreditation from the MRC and is now the longest-running web site with this distinction, and in 2006 it received 300 million hits and delivered 4.4 billion page views.
AT&T’s IPTV service U-verse agreed to carry ION Media Network‘s planned suite of digital programming channels. ION, formerly known as Pax TV, has launched two digitnets thus far: bilingual, educational children’s network qubo and lifestyle, wellness and personal growth channel Ion Life. U-verse is the video side of AT&T Project Lightspeed, deploying fiber optics to individual neighborhoods and utilizing existing infrastructure to deliver digital video, high speed internet and, in the future, Voice-over-IP services.
Fisher Communications, Journal Broadcast Group and Granite Broadcasting stations will offer a user-generated news service later this month, dubbed YouNewsTV. Developed by local website vendor Broadcast Interactive, YouNewsTV invites visitors to stations’ websites to upload news footage they shot, to be vetted by the station’s staff. Selected stories will be tagged with eight-to-fifteen second ad clips for distribution on the local station’s web site, other news sites or even on the station’s local air, with creators and stations sharing in the revenue.
