Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, March 3, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Moonscoop unveils a re-branding and restructuring plan under which its affiliated companies Taffy Entertainment and Mike young Productions will now operate under the Moonscoop brand banner.  To further build the synergy between the Moonscoop divisions, Paris-based CEO Nicolas Atlan will relocate to LA this fall to work in tandem with principals and Co-CEOS Mike Young and Bill Schultz and President Liz Young.  CEO Axel Dauchez will remain in the Paris overseeing operations across the group with Executive Chairmen and Founders Benoit di Sabatino and Christophe di Sabatino. Laurent Billion COO/Europe and Lionel Marty, President/Worldwide Distribution will also remain based in Paris.  Additionally, Brigitte Legendre Benloulou is appointed Director/Consumer Products for French-speaking markets.  Most recently with TF1, Benloulou will report to Cynthia Money, President/Worldwide Consumer Products and Marketing.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Cartoon Network begins production on the new live-action movie Ben 10: Alien Swarm, which is based on its animated Ben 10 Alien Force series.  Slated to premiere in fall 2009, Alex Winter returns to direct/executive produce the TV movie that features a script by John Turman (Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer and The Hulk).  Winter helmed the network’s first live-action Ben 10 movie, Ben 10: Race Against Time (November 22, 2007), which was the network’s most-watched day in total day ever and most watched telecast in 5+ years among K6-11 and K2-11.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Telescreen, a Dutch subsidiary of Germany’s m4e, inks a deal with Germany’s JEP Animation for the worldwide distribution rights (excluding Germany, French speaking Europe and Denmark) for the new animated series Rudolf (52×3).  Under the deal Telescreen takes the broadcast, home entertainment, merchandising, internet, mobile phone, audio and book publishing rights for the series.  Currently in production, Rudolf follows the basically non-verbal (gibberish) daily slapstick adventures of a door-to-door salesman and the strange customers he encounters.  Rudolf is created and directed by Rudi Mertens and produced by Jurgen Egenolf and produced by JEP Animation, part of Jurgen Egenolf Productions, Rudolf will begin delivering fall 2009 and be complete by summer 2010.

Spain’s producer/distributor BRB Internacional inks two new deals for the Screen 21 created animated comedy Angus & Cheryl ( www.anguscheryl.com ) (104×2).  CBBC acquires the free TV and pay TV rights to Angus & Cheryl for the UK.  Germany’s RTL2 ups its agreement to include more episodes of the non-verbal series.  Meanwhile in Eastern Europe TVN Poland and Baltic Media Alliance (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) have also picked up the series for air this year.  Created by Angus & Cheryl is produced by Screen 21, BRB Internacional, Tuba Entertainment and TVC.

BBC has begun airing the Pinky and Perky Show daily on BB1.  The series has been airing successfully on CBBC since November 2008.  Granada International is handling TV sales for the series, which is set to air on France 3 and ABC in Australia this year, with sales also confirmed in the Nordics.  PPC Enterprises, which holds the licensing and merchandising rights, has inked a deal with Martin Yaffe to produce a range of Pinky and Perky toys that will bow in fall/winter 2009.  Additionally, the Fiery Light theatre company is producing a live show based on the property.

Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Gym Teacher: The Movie) is lending his voice to Hal Jordan, better known as Green Lantern, in the animated Green Lantern: First Flight DVD a Warner Home Video release available from July 28, 2009.  The full-length animated film will be available as a special edition 2-disc version on DVD and Blu-Ray HD, as well as a single disc DVD.  A co-production of Warner Premiere, DC Comics and Warner Bros. Animation, Green Lantern: First Flight is the fifth title in the DVD series of DC Universe animated original PG-13 movies.  The movie also features Victor Garber as the evil Sinestro, Tricia Helfer as Boodikka, and Michael Madsen as Kilowog.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Paramount Licensing is seeking licensing partners for The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, the Paramount Pictures and Sony Pictures Entertainment 3D motion-capture feature film set for release in 2011.  Directed by Steven Spielberg from a screenplay by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn is produced by Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Kathleen Kennedy.  Based on the Tintin character created by Georges Remi, better known as Herge, the movie stars Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Defiance) as Tintin and Daniel Craig as the evil Red Rackham, as well as Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Gad Elmaleh, Toby Jones and Mackenzie Crook.  Paramount Pictures will release the movie domestically and in all English-speaking territories and Asia, excluding India.  Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute the film in Continental Europe, Eastern Europe, Latin America, India and the rest of the world.  The second Tintin movie in the series is to be directed by Jackson, with a possibility for a third film as well.

Hitting newsstands today is Tiger Beat’s 3D issue, which comes with free 3D glasses.  The special 3D glasses also allow readers to head over to www.tigerbeatmag.com where they’ll find bonus 3D photos.  The print edition features the Jonas Brothers in 3D, which of course supports the groups new movie Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience, as well as a host of other teen celebrities.  Launched in 1965, Tiger Beat is a Laufer Media Inc. publication aimed at Tweens 10-14.

Whole Foods Market teams with Teens Turning Green, a national alliance of teens educating peers and their communities about eco-lifestyle choices, to launch Project Green Prom, which aims to encourage teens to make green-friendly decisions and purchases around their proms.  Project Green Prom invites high school juniors and seniors to take part in an online video contest by submitting a three-minute video about they propose to green their prom.  Submissions can be uploaded to the Teens Turning Green YouTube site at teensturninggreen.org through March 30th.  Vendor partners participating in the program include jane iredale  The Skin Care Makeup, Burt’s Bees, John Masters Organics, Weleda, Natracare, Organic Essentials, Pangea Organics, Potter Barn Teen, Seventh Generations, and Tropicana among others.

4Kids Entertainment and its subsidiary TC Digital GamesChaotic Trading Card Game ( www.chaoticgame.com ) is now available in 1,000+ 7-Eleven stores nationwide, the first time the Chaotic products will be sold at a convenience store.  Chaotic: M’arrillian Invasion: Rise of the Oligarch (booster series) is the first Chaotic product to be offered at the store chain.

Marie VanAssendelft-Baker has been named Sr. Account Executive/Child’s Play Communications and Director/Team Mom, its mom blog community.  Baker will oversee PR management for Goddard Systems as well as develop and supervise the Team Mom network.
