Cynopsis: Kids!
3/20/07
Good morning. It’s Tuesday, March 20, 2007 and this is your first early morning kids briefing.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Movie studio, Toho and anime house, Studio Ghibli announced two new animated projects yesterday in Japan.
- The first is anime legend Hayao Miyazaki’s next movie project titled Gake No Ueno Ponyo, which translated into English means Ponyo On A Cliff, and is slated for theatrical release in Japan in July 2008. Miyazaki’s last feature film was Howl’s Movie Castle (2004). Based on an original screenplay, which according to the movie’s producer is somewhat based on the childhood experience of Miyazaki’s oldest son (now grown), the movie follows the story of Ponyo, a goldfish princess who wants to be human, and her friendship with Sousuke, a five-year-old boy. The movie will feature simple child-like drawn pictures and no computer generated animation. A note here, several media outlets have printed the movie title as Game no ue no Ponyo, which some translate as Ponyo Above A Cliff and others as Ponyo on the cliff top, since my Japanese is non-existent so I offer you all translations.
- The second project is Iblard Time, a production from Studio Ghibli and artist Ioue Naohisa, set to be released on DVD and Blu Ray on July 4, 2007. Iblard Time takes place in an imaginary world created by Naohisa, who uses real locations and then digitizes them and then adds CG content, with 2D animated content and characters created by Ghibli.
Man of Action Studios, the team that created the animated series Ben 10, has joined with SAMG Animation, the Seoul-based 3D digital animation studio, for to co-produce The 7Cs, an action/adventures series set in the Bermuda Triangle. The 7Cs features a group of misfit heroes goes up against aliens, monsters and other evil doers, while trying to discover the meaning of a talking sword and make their way home. The series will be available at MIPTV. Ben 10 airs on Cartoon network.
EnterAktion Studios has partnered with Hong Kong-based Asia Legend to co-produce four CG feature films; each of the title will have a $12 million budget, per Variety. All four will be co-productions between Asia Legend, EnterAktion and production house Legendtoonland. The first two projects are targeted to adults and kids and are set to start production in the next 3 months. Both the first, Life With Dwegons, and the, Los Opolis, will finish production in two years while Electric Forest will start production in 2008 and Adventures of Captain Sea in 2009.

The ‘next generation’ console version of the game features dueling controls and unique moves to defeat enemies, while the Wii version takes advantage of its unique abilities for actions similar to sword fighting.
