  Cynopsis: Kids!

01/27/09

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, January 27, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Comcast Corporation teams with Disney-ABC Domestic Television to launch the subscription video on demand (SVOD) service, Disney Family Movies.  The new service offers about 20 hours of content, including 10 feature films and two short-form films, which will be in rotation for approximately a month ($5.99/month), with new movies added weekly.  The service, which showcases classic and current Disney family movies, is now available to Comcast digital customers and can be found on Channel 1 in Premium Channels under Disney Family Movies.

AT&T Services Inc. and RaySat Broadcasting Corporation enter into a content deal with MTV Networks (MTVN), under which select programming, including for kids, will be offered as part of the AT&T CruiseCast ( www.cruisecast.com ) service.  Programming featured as part of the pact includes MTVN’s mobile channels from MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon and the linear TV channels, The N and Noggin.  Scheduled to debut spring 2009, AT&T CruiseCast mobile TV service is an in-car entertainment offering that will allow families, commuters, and mobile users to watch satellite video channels anywhere in the country.

Galleon Holdings is acquiring a 19% stake in the newly formed Dragonfruit Entertainment, a subsidiary of its US strategic partner, Dragonfruit Studios, for US$347,000 ($250,000 in cash and the rest coming in shares in Galleon Holdings).  This deal bolsters Galleon and Dragonfruit Studio’s relationship, which in fall 2008 saw Dragonfruit license rights to two Galleon multi-platform youth/family properties, Super Soccer Star and Apollo’s Pad.  Dragonfruit Entertainment is currently re-developing the Apollo’s Pad format for a multi-platform re-launch.  The plans include an emphasis on global distribution, advertising and sponsorship partners, to build on the relationships with Sony BMG and EMI, which supply the music catalogue for the site.

Disney/ABC Television Group, ESPN and Verizon extend their agreement to offer a range of entertainment, news and sports video programming.  Under the deal, full-length episodes from Disney Channel (Hannah Montana, The Suite Life on Deck and Phineas and Ferb), as well as episodes from ABC Entertainment, ESPN and ABC News, will be available to Verizon Wireless V Cast Video and Mobile Web customers.  Full episodes of these programs will be available on demand on V Cast Video the day following their TV premiere.  Additionally, Verizon Wireless customers will now also be able to access and view expanded programming from ESPN, including short news clips and other sports-related content, as well as having access to a variety of ESPN’s and Disney/ABC Television Group’s mobile Web sites.
