~ MORE STUFF ~

Bob May, 69, best known as the robot sidekick in the 1960s television series Lost in Space died Sunday of congestive heart failure. Even though May didn’t provide the voice of the robot, the phrase uttered by the loyal robot “Danger, Will Robinson” became a nationally-known catch phrase. During his career, May appeared in a variety of films and TV shows such as McHale’s Navy and The Red Skelton Show. He was also an active stuntman in the 1950s and 60s. May is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren. Funeral services are pending.

Gospel Music Channel’s next edition of its biography series Faith & Fame will feature Christian music star Jeremy Camp. The program will air this Saturday at 930p with encores on Sunday at 130a and 1p.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

A trio of actors joined the cast of CBS comedy pilot The Karenskys from Linwood Boomer (creator of Malcolm in the Middle), per THR. The plot is about Emily Atwood (Sasha Alexander) who returns to her hometown because of her husband’s job relocation and is reunited with her zany family. Mather Zickel will play Emily’s husband Bill Atwood who is put off by her family; Annie Potts will play Pearl Karensky, Emily’s happy yet overly religious mother; and Jack Thompson will play Max Karensky, Emily’s tough and tight-fisted father. The project is produced by Universal Media Studios and BermanBraun.

ABC is developing a new comedy about a slacker from Ricky Blitt (Family Guy), reports Variety. ABC handed a put pilot commitment to the project, formerly called Threesome, about a thirtysomething guy who is torn between his girlfriend and his slacker best friend.

Chicago-based Towers Productions, Inc., producer of factual and entertainment content, is currently working on thirty hours of original content for several networks under the banner of Discovery Communications. For Discovery Channel, projects include two one-hour specials called Secret America; a one-hour special The Science of Interrogation (wt); and a two-hour program called Most Wanted. For ID (Investigation Discovery), Towers is now in production on Undercover: Double Life a 13-hour series about the lives of undercover agents schedule to premiere first quarter 2009. In addition, Towers produced Animal Witness which premiered on Animal Planet last August encompassing twenty 30m episodes about animals and the use of DNA to solve crimes.

~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Yesterday we provided links to some of the places where you can view today’s historic activities. (It turns out the official Presidential Inaugural Committee will be also be streaming the swearing-in ceremony, using Microsoft’s Silverlight.) But the Inauguration of Barack Obama will not only be available to watch passively on multiple platforms – it will likely be remembered as a time when more Americans than ever before turned to digital tools to share the moment. Twitter, which is teaming with Current again to integrate microblog entries on television, says it is doubling its capacity to handle the extra traffic. Wireless networks spent heavily to beef up coverage in the D.C. area. Carriers’ advice to subscribers is to text instead of calling if you’re at the event – text packets clog up the network far less than voice packets.  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Cartoon Network France and Cartoon Network Italy and Spain, have pre-bought the new preschool-aimed flash and CGI animated series Commander Clark (52×13), which heads into production this month at Paris-based GO-N Productions.  Based on an idea from Go-N’s Eric Garnet and Anne de Galard, Commander Clark is penned by Ian Carney (Shawn the Sheep, Frankenstein Cat).  The series comes from Go-N Productions with the participation of France 5 and Cartoon Network France. Full edition: CYN KIDS.
