Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 30, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Give a He-Man fan a hug today, they’ll need it because it seems that Fox 2000 has not renewed the movie rights to the popular 1980s property, according to a Moviehole interview with Fox Executive Producer, Rodney Ferrell.
DC Comics will launch of its new teen-girl-targeted original graphic novel imprint MINX in May 2007 with the publication of The Plain Janes, penned by Cecil Castellucci and illustrated by Jim Rugg. MINX is slated to publish a total of seven graphic novels in 2007, each title featuring diverse and strong characters set in the real world. DC Comics will support the MINX launch with a year-long national marketing initiative will be driven and overseen by Alloy Media + Marketing, which specializes in youth focused promotions. Additional MINX titles to be released next year include Re-Gifters, Clubbing, Good As Lilly, Confessions of A Blabbermouth, Water Baby and Kimmie66.
MARKETING/LICENSING
LEGO has gone mobile as Hands-On Mobile, a mobile games publisher/developer, launches the mobile puzzle game, LEGO Bricks, in North America. The LEGO Bricks game is available for download on major carriers worldwide via mobile phone or the Hands-On Mobile website (www.handson.com ). Hands-On Mobile is supporting the LEGO Bricks game with a marketing effort that includes print, online, transit and outdoor ad campaigns, as well as joint marketing programs with the LEGO Group.

Snowboarder Shaun White has signed on as a spokesperson for MOTO RED, Motorola’s effort in partnership with the (PRODUCT) RED initiative. Created by Bono and Bobby Shriver, the (RED) brand was to established to raise awareness and money for the Global Fund by engaging businesses and consumers to help fight against AIDS in Africa. For each MOTO RED handset sold Motorola and the carrier makes a contribution to the Global Fund.

Houghton Mifflin Company, the US-based publisher of educational books/materials, has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Ireland’s HM Rivergroup PLC for about $3.4 billion ($1.8 billion in cash, and the assumption of some $1.6 billion in debt). In addition to purchasing Houghton Mifflin, the newly established HM Rivergroup will also acquire Riverdeep Holdings Ltd, a US publisher of interactive educational and personal publishing products, in a share-for-share swap valuing Riverdeep at upwards of $1.2 billion, including the assumption of debt. Upon completion of the acquisitions, which is expected to happen before the end of 2006, HM Rivergroup will change its name to Houghton Mifflin Riverdeep Group PLC.

MINX, DC Comics’ new graphic novel imprint, will be headed-up by Vertigo SVP and Executive Editor, Karen Berger and Vertigo Group Editor, Shelly Bond. Vertigo is an imprint of DC Comics.
Joe Snell has been named SVP/Interactive Services for Star Farm Productions, where he will create a network of user-focused online communities across all properties. He reports to Trish Lindsay, CEO/Co-Founder.
