Good morning. It’s Thursday, May 14, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures have tapped Evan Daugherty to pen another draft of their feature film adaptation of Mattel’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which is titled Grayskull, per THR. John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) will direct the movie. This is Daugherty’s first feature film, in fact his writing credits prior to this includes only an unproduced screenplay titled Shrapnel. Justin Marks wrote the first version of the Grayskull movie script.

Nickelodeon stars Jennette McCurdy (Sam on iCarly) and Ashley Argota (Lulu on True Jackson, VP) will serve as hosts for Double Trouble, an hour-long event featuring back-to-back premiere episodes of their respective shows on Saturday, May 16, 8-9p. MARKETING/LICENSING
Activision Publishing and Nickelodeon enter into a global partnership to develop a new videogame based on the network’s TV series iCarly. Set to release in fall 2009 for Wii and Nintendo DS the iCarly videogame invites kids to help Carly and her friends create new webisodes in the iCreate mode of the show, which corresponds to the original storyline featured in the game, allowing them to add their own ideas by swapping out props, characters, color schemes, audio, intros, outros etc. The game will also includes mini-games, presented as show skits. Up to four players can compete in the Wii version of the game, where they can also earn ‘Web-Cred’ to purchase new items, props and so on.
Electronic Arts is working on a new party-themed game based on Hasbro‘s Littlest Pet Shop brand. The new game, Littlest Pet Shop Friends, is targeted to girls and set for release on Wii and Nintendo DS this fall 2009. Focusing on party preparations (e.g. invites, cake and the like) and celebrations for girls and their pets, the game includes a host of new elements including new pets, customizable accessories, mini games, and an adventure storyline. The Littlest Pet Shop Friends games are in development at the EA Salt Lake Studio, and are expected to be rated “E” for Everyone by the ESRB.
4Kids Entertainment inks a deal to handle the licensing and merchandising rights in the Nordic territories for the upcoming mixed live-action and CG animated family-targeted movies Arthur and the Revenge of the Maltazard (2009) and Arthur and the War of the Two Worlds (2010). The two movies are the second and third movies in Luc Besson‘s trilogy, which began with the first movie Arthur and the Minimoys, known in English speaking countries as Arthur and the Invisibles. Arthur and the Revenge of the Maltazard will be released in the region on December 4, 2009, where it will be distributed by Scanbox Entertainment.
Cartoon Network Enterprises will release the entire Total Drama Island animated ‘reality’ series (27 episodes) on DVD this August 18, 2009. Created by Fresh TV and distributed by Cake Entertainment debuted on Cartoon Network in June 2009.
McDonald’s and Fox ink a new worldwide partnership that includes the studio’s movies now through 2010 and will feature new technology, animation, new Happy Meal collections and in-restaurant promotions. The deal launches with Fox’s two newest family-aimed movies Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (May 22, 2009) and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (July 1, 2009).
- The US promotion for the movie sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian begins this month with a themed Happy Meal, which includes toys based on eight characters from the movie, each of which includes a special code that can be used online to unlock content at MacWorld. The Night at the Museum promotion will also launch around the world with special additions in some markets, including in the UK and Australia where an extra toy design will be offered.
- The Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs movie promotion, the third movie in the series, launches at McDonald’s restaurants in June and July.
