BBC America debuts two daytime programs in April:
National Geographic Channel is going to the dogs again as a new season of DogTown debuts March 20 at 10p. Throughout ten new episodes, viewers will follow several canine hardship cases at the Utah-based Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and watch as these dogs receive love, care and rehabilitation to become great pets. Sundance Channel has a slew of programming and new series announcements slated for April:
National Geographic Channel six-part series Hard Time, documenting a year inside Georgia’s paramilitary prison system, opened Monday night at 9p and posted a 0.62 rating among A25-54 and a 0.88 HH rating. New episodes air Monday nights at 9p through March 30. Fuel TV opens a new action comedy series called Thrillbillies March 29 at 8p about a group of daredevil redneck friends who participate in a variety of entertaining stunts. ABC Family made a deal with Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution (WBDTD) to acquire the seventh and last season of Warner Bros. Television’s series Gilmore Girls. With this purchase, ABC Family now has the network cable rights to the entire 153-episode Gilmore Girls library. ABC Family currently airs the first six seasons of Gilmore Girls and tentatively said it will air the seventh season episodes starting this June. ~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
SCI FI Channel added Lou Diamond Phillips, Ming-Na, Elyse Levesque and Alaina Huffman to the cast of new original series SGU: Stargate Universe. The series started production recently in Vancouver and also stars Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, David Blue, Jamil Walker Smith and Brian J. Smith. MGM produces the series. TV One and A. Smith & Co. Productions are going into the production on eight new episodes of Unsung, the one-hour biography series profiling talented artists or groups who have not received the recognition they deserve. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed and Frank Sinton of A. Smith & Co. Productions will executive produce while Mark Rowland will co-executive produce. The new episodes will feature such artists as Melba Moore and Minnie Riperton, premiering on TV One this June. Previously, A. Smith & Co. Productions produced four Unsung episodes featuring DeBarge, Donny Hathaway, Phyllis Hyman and the Clark Sisters, which aired as specials last fall. CMT ordered eight 60m episodes of new original series World’s Strictest Parents, slated to open in April. Production is happening in cities nationwide and this series will be programmed as a companion to Nanny 911 which also opens in April on CMT. Shed Media US (formerly Ricochet Television) produces the new series. Actor/rapper LL Cool J was tapped for the CBS spinoff of NCIS, cites Variety. LL Cool J will play a tough yet likable former Navy SEAL who goes undercover for the NCIS unit based in Los Angeles. CBS will air the spinoff as one half of a two-part NCIS episode later this season. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Apple shareholders re-elected the entire board of directors yesterday including ailing CEO Steve Jobs, who was absent from the company’s annual shareholder’s meeting for the first time in more than a decade. The board defended its limited disclosure of Job’s medical issues despite calls from shareholders for more details on Jobs’ health and the company’s succession plans. Just to show there was no hard feelings, shareholders sang “Happy Birthday” for Steve – who turned 54 on Wednesday. (And many happy returns, prayed the group.) Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Warner Bros. unveiled the official release date for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two is July 15, 2011. Warner Bros. is splitting Deathly Hallows, the final book (784 pages) in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, into two movies thus expanding the movie franchise.
