Good morning. It’s Thursday, February 12, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Belgium-based Studio 100 establishes its new animation studio, Studio100 Animation. Based in Paris, Studio100 Animation is part of Studio 100’s strategy to extend its business into animation through both self-funded and co-financed development opportunities. A subsidiary of Studio 100, Studio100 Animation will initially produce two animations per year, beginning with Super Mega Hyper Pets a new joint venture with Amberwood Productions in Canada and Rescue 4U with Ireland’s Magma Films. Jo Daris will head the operation as GM, Studio100 Animation. Jan Van Rijsselberge joins the new studios as Creative Officer. Most recently Rijsselberge toiled for animation producer/distributor Alphanim for a dozen year, where he served as Creative Producer, Creator and Designer on a range of productions. Additionally, Djamila Missoum is named Line Producer and Thorsten Wegener becomes Head of Business Affairs for the new animation studio.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Films picks up a pitch for a comedy entitled How Could You DO This to Me?, which they plan to develop as a possible project for Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove (iCarly, Drake and Josh), according to Variety. The story revolves around a teen that is not in favor of the idea of her divorced parents getting back together. Andy Marx and Andrea King are set to pen the script.
Village Roadshow, Warner Bros. and Animal Logic‘s feature film animated adaptation of Guardians of Ga’hoole will feature the voices of Jim Sturgess, Geoffrey Rush, Rachael Taylor, and David Wenham, per The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchman) and currently shooting in Australia, the movie is based on the first three titles in author Kathryn Lasky’s kid-aimed book series, Guardians of Ga’hoole.
