Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal report that Google is nearing a deal to acquire part of HTC, the Taiwanese consumer electronics company. According to the Journal, it’s HTC’s phone-design business that Google is snatching up. The move reportedly comes as part of Google’s growing efforts to compete in the consumer handset market.
