One final NBC note — NBC’s Crime & Punishment returns this summer, June 12 at 10pm.
The WB Upfront presentation is scheduled for tomorrow morning and all sorts of goings on are expected. For instance, Jack & Bobby and The Mountain, which you already knew about, are on the fall schedule, and also expect to see Commando Nanny (Mark Burnett Prods) as a go for next fall, as well as two other comedy shows — Blue Collar TV with Jeff Foxworthy, and improv comedy The Green Screen. Look for Steve Harvey’s Big Time to be expanded from 30m to an hour, and the addition of a new reality show called Studio 7. Also expect a return appearance from High School Reunion, but don’t not from The Help, JKE, All About the Andersons, Like Family and Run of the House to show up back on the schedule.
Eleventh hour negotiations end with a renewal for CBS and Everybody Loves Raymond, bring the show back for one more season. In its upcoming ninth season, rather than the usual complement of 22 eps, the show will only have 16 originals.
It would seem the more ‘culture’ a network airs, the less likely it is to make it long term. Take for instance the long ago net, CBS Cable – very cultural, won several Ace Awards in its time (early 1980’s), but just didn’t have the advertisers and the power viewers to sustain. That may be a simplistic view and certainly many factors led to its ultimate shuttering, but nonetheless it did disappear after just a couple of years. Next network potentially on the chopping block according to Broadcasting & Cable is NBC Universal’s newest network, Trio. The network that airs long ago cancelled, but beloved, shows; the network that airs music and plays, is in danger of disappearing, so says B&C and Randy Falco, President NBC Universal Networks President. It again comes down to viewers and advertisers, and the ultimate question if it makes financial sense. A decision is expected sooner than later – Trio’s deal with DirecTV expires at year’s end.
The Restaurant will be moved off the NBC primetime schedule for the remainder of the May Sweep, according to Daily Variety, slotting in repeats of L&O SVU and/or Crossing Jordan in the 10p Monday time period. The show will return to air all unseen eps post-Sweep, as well as be repeated on Bravo.
Tonight: Series Finale:Las Vegas at 9 pm on NBC Season Finale: 7th Heaven, part 2 of 2, at 8 pm on WB Series Premiere: The WB’s Superstar USA at 9 pm on WB
Paramount‘s new syndicated series for this fall, The Insider, which kicks off on September 13, has been cleared in all 100 of the top 100 markets.
Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has announced a firm go for its syndicated series, The Writer’s Hot List. The 30m series, sold on a straight barter basis, interviews authors of the world’s best selling books. Featured authors in the first 22 eps include Jay Leno (author of If Roast Beef Could Fly), John Dean (Worse than Watergate: the Secret Presidency of George W. Bush), Tom Hayden (Street Wars: Gangs and the Future of Violence); Arianna Huffington (Fanatics and Fools: The Game Plan for Winning Back America), Larry King (Remember Me When I’m Gone…), Leonard Maltin (The 2005 Movie & Video Guide) and Alice Walter (Now is the Time to Open Your Heart).
Premiering tonight on Discovery Health Channel is Daily Rounds, a series of five minute news segments that introduce viewers to top studies, breaking headlines and trends in the world of health and medicine, with host Mary Alice Williams. The first one is scheduled to air at 7:55pm ET.

Answer to yesterday’s Trivia Question: In TV-ese, this term refers to the unceremonious deleting of regular or recurring program characters, without explanation or future mention. What is the term? Bobbed. This term was created as a result of a character on ER named Bogdanalivetsky Romansky (played by Malgoscha Gebel), nicknamed Bob, who disappeared from the cast minus explanation. With that said, many of the other suggested answers forwarded in, including 86’d, on hiatus, cancelled, Chucked (per Chuck Cunningham character) and Tiger (per a disappearing dog character), are all equally correct in my mind – so Kudos to all of you.
