Cynopsis: Kids!

03/09/09

Good morning. It’s Monday, March 9, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

What was a rumor appears to be true  Dakota Fanning (15) will get her fangs on to star in Summit Entertainment‘s movie The Twilight Saga: New Moon, the sequel to its Twilight film, per People.com.  Fanning will take on the role of Jane, a particularly evil vampire in the guise of a sweet young thing who is a member of the Volturi sect of vampires.  Principle photography for New Moon is scheduled to begin in Vancouver later this month, with the release date close behind in November 20, 2009.  New Moon is shooting back-to-back with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (June 30, 2010), the third movie in the saga that is based on Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight books.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Fox is working on a new feature film based on Marmaduke, the Great Dane from the eponymous comic strip drawn by Brad Anderson that has run since 1954, per The Hollywood Reporter.  Director Tom Dey (Shanghai Noon) is developing the movie for the studio.  No word on if the movie will be live-action, animated or a mix of the two.  Marmaduke has appeared in animated form in episodes of the animated series Heathcliff and Garfield and Friends.  United Features Syndicate syndicates the Marmaduke comic strip.
