~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

With millions of people expected to be in Washington, D.C. tomorrow to witness the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, Nielsen released data about inaugural television viewership since 1969. To date, the 1981 inauguration of Ronald Reagan attracted the most viewers at nearly 42 million and the least-watched inauguration was in 2005 for George W. Bush’s second term with 15.5 million viewers. Bets are the Obama Inauguration will exceed the Reagan significantly.

ABC announcements from TCA in Pasadena includes news the network will not pick up the Fox canceled series King of the Hill, but that Mike Judge’s other series for ABC, The Goode Family, is still on track to debut later on this season.  Current ABC series Pushing Daisies and Dirty Sexy Money will probably not be returning next season, and viewers may ultimately have to turn to online to see the final episodes.  According to Jim is also likely in its last season, but nothing official yet.

Lifetime Television confirmed it picked up Drop Dead Diva, a new comedy/drama series from Sony Pictures Television. The plot is about a shallow model wannabe who dies suddenly in an accident and her soul moves into the body of a recently-deceased attorney who is smart and plus-sized. The series is scheduled to premiere this summer.

Last Thursday’s premiere of original drama series The Beast on A&E Network with back-to-back telecasts attracted 3.6 million total viewers. The Beast starring Patrick Swayze and Travis Fimmel airs Thursdays at 10p.

Swayze Update – A&E’s The Beast star, Patrick Swayze, is back out of the hospital after a brief stay to deal with pneumonia.  He is reportedly resting at home.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

SCI FI Channel added four cast members for the new original series Stargate Universe. Justin Louis, David Blue, Brian J. Smith and Jamil Walker Smith will join Robert Carlyle who will portray Dr. Nicholas Rush. Production begins next month in Vancouver and the series, produced by MGM, is slated to debut fall 2009.

Following months of speculation and negotiations, Matthew Weiner, creator/executive producer of AMC’s Mad Men made a two-year deal with Lionsgate Television, allowing him to remain in charge of the drama series. The deal, where specific details were not released, is expected to encompass Weiner’s lead responsibility for Mad Men’s third and fourth seasons, development of other television projects and a feature project with Lionsgate. Season three of Mad Men will premiere on AMC this summer.

Alex Trebek, host of Jeopardy! and a native of Canada, was selected by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. to host a new reality competition series Canada’s Next Prime Minister, reports THR.
