Good Morning, it’s Friday, January 12, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Don’t be scared, it’s just TV! On March 1 NBC Universal will launch a new horror cable channel called Chiller, which will be designed to play across all platforms, including linear, HD, VOD and broadband, and appeal to the A18-34 crowd. Content will be NBC Universal library series and films, including The Birds, Psycho, Twin Peaks and Tales from the Crypt, as well as acquired programming. The channel will be carried on DirecTV, making the new network immediately available in 12 million homes. This will be the second horror-themed network to launch in the past three months – the Comcast/Sony broadband channel FearNet launched on October 31.
Tonight’s Premiere:
BBC America: Hardware at 11p and Spaced at 1130p
Tonight’s Finale:
BBC America: My Family at 9p and Worst Week of My Life at 9:40p
The premiere episode of The Sopranos on A&E drew 4.27 million total viewers on Wednesday night, giving it bragging rights as the most viewed off-network premiere on basic cable, ever. The episode that immediately followed delivered 3.45 million viewers.
Mark Burnett will serve as Executive Producer of the 16th Annual 2007 MTV Movie Awards, which will air live for the first time on Sunday, June 3, 2007. From MTV, Sally Frattini will serve as Executive Producer, as she has for the past 10-years. The two have worked together before on Burnett’s MTV 1990s series Eco-Challenge. Burnett’s vision of the Movie Awards is not drastically different than what you’ve seen in the past, tho in his words he would like to “loosen it up a little bit” by moving further away from scripted content and getting a little more spontaneous.
VH1 will debut a new series on March 4 – The Springer Hustle, the backstage view of the syndicated daytime series, The Jerry Springer Show. In 8 episodes, The Springer Hustle will introduce viewers to the backstage area, and what all goes into to creating The Jerry Springer Show day in and day out, focusing mailing on the shows team of producers and their own personal dramas.
If you are travelling to Las Vegas for the NATPE 2007 convention next week, the average high temperatures for next week are in the low 30’s, with a chance of snow showers. Temperatures only begin to warm up by Wednesday and Thursday when the high’s get into the low 40’s. Evening temperatures can dip as low as single digits … so don’t leave your winter coat at home this year! Travel safely, and I’ll see you there!
