| Want to win over viewers? Help them find something to watch. Video platforms relying on engagement to drive their businesses face major risks by not delivering user experiences that help viewers navigate massive amounts of available content, according to Gracenote’s 2025 State of Play report. Based on a survey of consumers in the US, UK, Germany, France, Brazil and Mexico, the report finds that nearly 33% of streaming users feel content and service fragmentation negatively impacts their TV experience and among the 25-34 age group, that concentration rises to 40%. Despite general love for streaming among consumers in different countries and age groups, 45% say the streaming experience is overwhelming. “Effective search, discovery and recommendation capabilities that enable platforms to connect viewers to the content they’ll enjoy most are more critical than ever,” said Tyler Bell, SVP of Product at Gracenote. “Organizations that deliver these capabilities will simplify the fragmentation of content and channels which impact viewers’ entertainment experiences. In doing so, they can capitalize on opportunities to become the first and most valuable viewing sources for their users.”
As Warner Bros. Discovery mulls whether to split the company, sell some assets or sell the whole kit and caboodle, a source tells CNBC a decision is expected by mid to late December. WBD has rejected three offers from Paramount for a full takeover; Paramount has discussed taking an offer directly to shareholders and formalizing a hostile bid for the company, according to CNBC.
IP-to-postal linkages are accurate, on average, 13% of the time. That stat is among the key findings from a study, commissioned by Coalition for Media Measurement and Go Addressable, conducted by Truthset, that highlights gaps in CTV and audience-based advertising. Other highlights include:
· IP-to-email linkages are accurate, on average, 16% of the time.
· Data providers agree only 6.4% of the time on IP-to-postal linkages and 2.8% of the time on IP-to-email linkages, with the large majority of linkages over the same 90-day period unique to each provider.
· There are 3x more IPs-per-postal than there should be, compared to ISP reports.
· IP timestamp reporting is inconsistent across providers, with conflicting definitions of “first seen,” “last seen,” or “versioned,” undermining comparability.
· When (time of year) and where (state-level geography) both impact IP linkage accuracy.
“IP addresses remain a foundational identifier for CTV, programmatic, and addressable advertising,” said Jon Wattts, Managing Director at CIMM. “Inaccuracies in IP-to-household data can erode advertiser confidence in its reliability for audience targeting, attribution and measurement. Greater transparency and stronger standards are the essential next step to unlocking scalable, accurate addressable advertising. We hope strongly that this study is a positive next step in developing more robust quality controls and checks across the market and looking forward to working with stakeholders to deliver real improvements. This is a fixable problem.”
Netflix reported on Wednesday that it is using a new viewership metric, monthly active users, which it says will more accurately represent the reach of its ad-supported tier. “After speaking to our partners, we know that what they want most is an accurate, clear, and transparent representation of who their ads are reaching,” wrote Amy Reinhard, President, Adverting, on the company’s website. “Our previous measurement (which was based on account profiles) didn’t represent all of the engaged people who are in the room watching.” Reinhard says the service now counts 190 million active users for its ad-supported tier.
Tom Bergeron, who hosted ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” from its launch in 2005 until 2020 – when he was critical of the show’s decision to add former White House press secretary Sean Spicer to the season 28 cast – is returning to the show as a guest judge. He’ll appear on the show’s 20th anniversary special on Tuesday, November 11.
Small teams, limited budgets, talent shortages, and economic pressures make it harder for mid-market marketing organizations to compete with larger brands, according to new research from WARC and Intuit Mailchimp. A survey of marketing leaders across the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand found:
· Spend is concentrated in just a handful of channels, often skewed toward short-term digital tactics, while owned media like email and SMS remain underutilized growth engines.
· Companies with broader martech adoption are more likely to experiment and feel competitively stronger.
· Marketing teams that commit to AI adoption as a structured journey can turn efficiency gains into sustained growth, while those that delay risk ceding ground to faster-moving competitors.
The ad industry faces four million infected CTV bot devices generating extreme volumes of invalid traffic daily, according to a report from DoubleVerify and Roku, Global Insights: Trends in the Modern Streaming Landscape. Since 2023, DV and Roku have partnered to block billions of fraudulent ad requests imitating Roku device traffic across the streaming ecosystem. The companies maintain this marked reduction demonstrates the effectiveness of DV and Roku’s combined technologies, including Roku’s proprietary Advertising Watermark, which ensures inventory authenticity and curbs invalid traffic (IVT) at scale. “CTV remains one of the fastest-growing channels in digital advertising and, unfortunately, one of the most targeted by fraudsters due to high CPMs and the relative newness of the ecosystem,” said Mark Zagorski, CEO of DoubleVerify. “Our work with Roku shows how proactive, collaborative innovation can deliver real, measurable results for advertisers.”
FuboTV has launched Fubo Channel Store, a central location for its standalone plans that enables subscribers to access the programming they subscribe to in a central hub without exiting their Fubo app. Premium standalone subscriptions currently available in the Fubo Channel Store include DTC services from multiple regional sports networks in select markets as well as DAZN One, Hallmark+, MGM+, Paramount+ with Showtime and Starz.

The strongest brand linkage (how well audiences who remembered the ad also attributed it to the correct brand) was delivered by The Farmer’s Dog (97%) and the MLB itself (92%), topping MarketCast’s “MVPs of Branding” list by ensuring audiences not only remembered their ads but correctly linked them to the brand.
