IN THE NEWS

After reports surfaced last week that Disney is exploring the possibility of selling ABC, the company issued a statement. “While we are open to considering a variety of strategic options for our linear businesses, at this time The Walt Disney Company has made no decision with respect to the divestiture of ABC or any other property and any report to that effect is unfounded,” said the company. A spokesperson for Byron Allen and Allen Media Group said Allen had made a $10 billion offer for ABC and its local stations. No word from Nexstar, also said to be interested.

ABC canceled its “The Wonder Years” reboot after two seasons. Still on the bubble at the network are “The Rookie: Feds” and “Home Economics.”

Talks between the writers’ guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are set to take place this week, 4 ½ months after the WGA went on strike. “Every member company of the AMPTP is committed and eager to reach a fair deal, and to working together with the WGA to end the strike,” said a statement from the studio group.

Eight of ten Americans are aware of the Hollywood writers/actors strike while only two-thirds of 18-34-year-olds are aware, according to a study conducted by MARU/Matchbox. Members of that younger demo are most likely to boycott a film/TV show or unsubscribe to a streaming service if urged by their favorite actor. Among heavy linear TV viewers who are aware of the strike, 22% say they will watch less TV this fall; 25% of heavy TV viewers say they will watch less; and 3% say they will watch more.

Will the video game industry be the next to endure a strike? SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher is urging her union members to authorize a strike against gaming companies “if needed.” Noting that it’s been nearly a year since SAG-AFTRA began negotiating the Interactive Media Agreement with the companies, Drescher says in a video, “Despite many multi-day bargaining sessions, the companies are refusing to meet our members’ needs in vital areas.”

“The Drew Barrymore Show” will not premiere this week after all, a reversal the host announced on Sunday. “I have listened to everyone, and I am making the decision to pause the show’s premiere until the strike is over,” Barrymore wrote on Instagram. “I have no words to express my deepest apologies to anyone I have hurt and, of course, to our incredible team who works on the show and has made it what it is today. We really tried to find our way forward.” Barrymore faced backlash after announcing that her talker would restart despite the strikes, without union writers

But it’s not just Sanders’ coaching style that’s grabbing attention – Blenders Eyewear is collaborating with him on a new sunglasses line. “Coach Prime is an icon with a multi-generational influence,” said Chase Fisher, CEO and founder of Blenders Eyewear. “From player to now a powerhouse coach, he’s become a true game-changer with a bold and unshakable style.”

Oxygen true-crime series “Prosecuting Evil with Kelly Siegler” (fka “Texas Justice with Kelly Siegler”) premieres Friday, November 18 at 8p. The show examines harrowing homicides in the Lone Star state.

COMING UP

FOX is celebrating the season 10 premiere of “The Masked Singer” with a city-wide takeover of 10 businesses in LA on Saturday, September 23. The one-day-only event will offer show-inspired freebies (like a tote bag from Fred Segal, and a Bouncing Berries smoothie from Kreation) alongside opportunities to see the show’s costumes up close. The reality show returns Wednesday, September 27.

FOX and Get Lit have entered a year-long collaboration to create impactful videos. As a part of #TVFORALL, FOX will debut an original poem “Community Quilt” in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. The poem, written and performed by Jasmine Minchez, will be shared across local FOX stations and FOX digital.

HITN has a series of special programs on tap that show what Hispanics are doing around the world, including an interview with Pope Francis, a documentary on Dr. Aliza, the Success Stories of Bismarck Lepe (technology entrepreneur), Dr. Bolaños Meade (oncologist at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center), Lauren Cella (influencer on History) and Juan José Durán (media professional responsible for content partnerships and multicultural partnerships at Google for the Americas).
