Good morning. It’s  Monday, October 30, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing. 

PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT

What climbs up stairs alone or in pairs?  Everyone knows it’s Slinky! And now Slinky is to be the basis for a new movie.  Image In Media Inc. has inked a co-production deal with H2V Spring Inc. and DSP, Inc. to produce a movie based on the Slinky.  Image in Media is currently seeking to complete financial for movie, and under the pact it will become a 50% partner for the exploitation of all rights from digital to film, TV and merchandising rights based on the Slinky movie and derived projects on all media.  Created in 1943 by Richard James, a naval engineer, who was experimenting with tension springs, the Slinky was made its debut at Gimbels Department Store in Philadelphia in 1945.  Image In Media Inc. is a subsidiary of Section Rouge, a publisher (magazines and games) and producer/distributor of electronic content.  Through Image In Media, Section Rouge develops, finances, produces and distributes cross-media products. H2V Spring, a unit of H2V Entertainment, creates projects specifically targeted to North American kids using its existing brands, toys and publications.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Halloween day and evening programming:

  • PBS will feature holiday programming for preschoolers and kids (times check local listings) on its PBS Kids and PBS Kids Go blocks.  In addition kids who visit the corresponding websites will find e-cards, printables, masks, and songs, with safety tips and recipes available for parents.  Preschoolers are invited to join the Berenstain Bears and Piggley Winks from Jakers, as they find that some things they thought were really scary, turn out not to be so scary in the end, as well as episodes of Teletubbies.  PBS Kids Go will feature a new holiday-themed episode of Cyberchase features the use of division as a way to prevent Hacker from doing evil, and episodes of Postcards From Buster and Maya and Miguel
  • PBS Kids Sprout’s preschool Halloween-themed programming tomorrow will feature episodes of Thomas & Friends, Jakers!, Angelina Ballerina, Make Way For Noddy, Sagwa: The Chinese Siamese Cat, and Dragon Tales.
  • Cartoon Network will feature a 9.5 hour Halloween marathon tomorrow, from 1-10:30p.  The marathon will feature Halloween programming including Casper’s Scare School, Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Boo Haw Haw, The Haunted Pumpkin of Sleepy Hollow and Scary Godmother’s Halloween Spooktakular.
  • Disney Channel will run 24 hours of Halloween-themed episodes and movies, October 31-November 1, 6a-6a.
  • Nickelodeon will be all Halloween-themed episodes and movies programming tomorrow 6a-9p.

On the topic of holidays, Cartoon Network will celebrate Thanksgiving with the premiere of a new 1hr special Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends special titled, Good Wilt Hunting, on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, at 7p.  Leading up to the first Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends movie, the network will host a 12 hour marathon of the series beginning at 7a.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Nickelodeon UK officially launches its Nick Jr. online broadband service today (www.nickjr.co.uk ).  The site will feature video of Nick Jr. programs including Dora the Explorer and The Backyardigans as well as exclusive footage of some of its other programming.

4Kids Entertainment, licensing agent for Cabbage Patch Kids, and Jakks Pacific, Inc, announced that Original Appalachian Artworks, Inc. has extended its contract with Jakks’s Play Along division for Cabbage Patch Kids dolls and accessories through 2010.

aniBOOM, a user-generated video site focusing exclusively on animation, is now live and accepting submissions for the first aniBOOM-sponsored online activities, the inaugural aniBOOM Awards. The first annual aniBOOM Awards, currently accepting submissions, kicks off a series of site activities, which will also include additional competitions, new features and original productions.  The aniBOOM Awards will grant $50,000 in prizes, with winners judged by site visitors along with a group of international animation industry leaders. In the final stage of the competition, movies selected by the judges will count for 30% of the vote, and audience selections 70%.  aniBOOM is accepting submissions in five categories: Funny, Drama, Music Videos, Experimental and Crappy (appropriate for amateur animators). Twenty five semi-finalists, five from each category, will be named on January 15.  The site features more than 1,000 user-submitted films from animators in 60 countries, in all forms including flash, 2D and 3D.  ( www.aniboom.com )

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Mediametrie has appointed Bruno Chetaille as its new Chairman, effective December 23, 2006.  Chetaille will success Jacqueline Aglietta.  Chetaille is currently Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Tower Participations, a holding company of the TDF Group. Mediametrie is the organization that provides TV, radio, internet and cinema audience measurement in France.
