Since its launch in 2008 by Urban One, iONE Digital’s news, entertainment, video, and lifestyle content has driven its growth. From roots in radio, compelling storytelling, and endeavors in frontier technology, the iONE Digital portfolio includes some of the most recognizable brands in the digital landscape. The iONE Digital portfolio focuses on key passion points and interests, including men’s and women’s lifestyle, sports, beauty, fashion, and entertainment – comprised of Cassius, HelloBeautiful, MadameNoire, Bossip, NewsOne, GlobalGrind, HipHopWired, BlackAmericaWeb and Elev8. Each iONE brand is an authoritative voice in its own right. In addition to publishing brands, iONE Digital is home to the original social network for urban millennials, BlackPlanet, and three YouTube brands – The Fumble, Hollyscoop, and Nerdwire.

One X Studios is looking for an experienced and versatile creative director whose work is often on the cutting-edge of art and Black culture while being rooted insights and honest storytelling. The ideal candidate consistently stays current on innovative and effective creative work being done across a wide range of mediums and approaches his or her own work with a distinct and well-articulated point of view.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Help to cultivate a standard of artful and informed creative development across departments and content platforms.
  • Create and/or collaborate to present creative concepts and strategy in the form of treatments, pitch decks, storyboards, mood boards, mockups, video reels, write-ups, or verbal pitches.
  • Formulate, manage, and maintain consistency in keeping with brand messaging and strategy.
  • Define project needs and source/engage relevant, capable and cutting-edge creative partners and talent.
  • Assume hands-on production roles when necessary, such as writing and/or directing.
  • Work closely with all internal and external partners during development, pre-production, production, post-production, distribution, and award submissions to ensure consistent vision, creative intent, and quality.
  • Supervise external production partners in adherence with production agreements, budgets, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Act as the primary source of information regarding the creative direction and progress of execution, which is to be communicated with internal departments and client partners as necessary.
  • Respond to both RFPs and direct-to-client assignments from brands and agencies. Examine client brief and lead ideation or adapt pre-existing creative.
  • Identify innovative storytelling and emerging video formats
  • Work with Legal, Sales, Marketing, and Brand Leadership departments to define what’s possible in the pursuit of innovative, best in class content
  • Execution of creative projects/concepts in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and direct a team to include but not limited to:
    • Provide regular constructive feedback
    • Resolve issues/conflicts with diplomacy in a timely manner
    • Provide on-going guidance and support for growth and development
    • Deploy effective coaching skills
    • Practical understanding of anti-harassment and discrimination laws
    • Ability to effectively administer performance reviews, and corrective action plans as appropriate
    • Ensure team (s) attend mandatory department and/or mandatory company training (s) as required
  • Complies with Network and Urban One’s mandatory trainings and adheres to related course deadlines
