Cyn opsis: Kids!
12/08/06
Good morning. It’s Friday, December 8, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Sony Pictures Entertainment says today will be a record setting day for the company as its worldwide box office sales surpass the $3 billion in a single year. A unique feat – only three other movies studios have ever broken the $3 billion marker in ticket sales in one year. In the international market this has already become Sony biggest year in its history, with box office sales coming in as of now at just under $1.5 billion. Domestically, the studio has zipped pass $1.5 billion and it is expected to exceed $1.573 billion, which is the most any movie studio has generated in box office receipts in one year in North America; that record was set by Sony in 2002. All that and there are three weeks left in 2006 and two SPE movies yet to be released: Holiday (debuts today) and The Pursuit of Happyness (December 15).
Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) joined the Entertainment Software Rating Board President Patricia Vance on Capitol Hill yesterday to launch a new national TV PSA campaign that is targeted to parents and encourages them to pay attention to video game ratings when buying games for kids. The PSAs, which have been distributed to 800 TV stations, feature Best Buy President Brian Dunn and GameStop President Steve Morgan underlining their respective company’s support of the ESRB ratings as well as their store policy not to sell Mature rated games to kids under 17 without parental consent. Additionally, the ESRB is distributing a radio PSA effort and continues its print campaign, “OK to Play? Check the Ratings.”
