Who needs a host? Seconds into ABC’s telecast of the Oscars, the crowd was on its feet for Adam Lambert-led Queen’s performance of “We Will Rock You” and “We Are the Champions.” Other highlights, in addition to a set of presenters and winners that delivered on promises of diversity, included Melissa McCarthy presenting the costume design award dressed in a gown covered with stuffed rabbits…Mike Myers and Dana Carvey channeling their Wayne’s World, Queen-loving characters to introduce Best Picture nominee Bohemian Rhapsody…Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s highly-anticipated rendition of “Shallow”, which won a standing ovation (in addition to Best Song later in the evening)…Spike Lee jumping into the arms of presenter Samuel L. Jackson when BlacKkKlansman won for Best Screenplay…and Julia Roberts’ surprise appearance as presenter of Best Picture to Green Book. Other big winners were: Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron (Roma), Best Actress: Olivia Colman (The Favourite), Best Actor: Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody). Best Supporting Actress: Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Best Supporting Actor: Mahershala Ali (Green Book).
