HBO has greenlit American Lion, a six-hour miniseries starring Oscar winner Sean Penn as President Andrew Jackson. The project is based on the biography “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House,” by John Meacham, with additional source material coming from Robert V. Remini’s biography of Jackson. The project marks Penn’s first major TV role.
