Sean Penn has joined the cast of Beau Willimon’s upcoming Hulu drama series The First, following the first human mission to Mars. Speaking of firsts, it’s the Academy Award winner’s first regular series role into TV. (Penn’s ex-wife, Robin Wright, stars in WIllimon-created House of Cards.) The First is slated to premiere in 2018.
Insurance company Aflac has signed on as sponsor of Disney XD’s recently revived animated series DuckTales. The deal includes a co-branded commercial featuring an animated version of the Aflac duck, set in the world of DuckTales (ha!). The 30-second spot premieres today at 7a during Good Morning America.

Saturday Night Live, which aired the final four episodes of season 42 live nationwide, will continue live from coast to coast its next go-round. The Emmy-winning NBC sketch comedy launches season 43 on September 30, with host Ryan Gosling and musical guest Jay-Z. For Mountain and Pacific time zones, SNL will be repeated at 11:30p.
Fox bought two more dramas from Lee Daniels. Victory, a gospel choir drama with writer Julian Breece (The First), received a put pilot commitment.
