Apple made a slew of announcements at its splashy Cupertino event yesterday, but as expected, the big focus was on Apple TV+. The ad-free subscription video service will feature content from the likes of JJ Abrams, Steven Spielberg and Steve Carell, to name a few. “We partnered with the most thoughtful, accomplished and award-winning group of creative visionaries who have ever come together in one place, to create a new service unlike anything that’s been done before,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Oprah Winfrey, who inked a deal with Apple almost a year ago, was one of the stars to take the stage, to talk about a documentary about sexual harassment in the workplace and a series on mental health, as well as a revamped version of her Book Club. “The only other thing more gratifying than an extraordinary read is being able share that experience with others, and we’re going to do just that by building the biggest, the most vibrant, the most stimulating Book Club on the planet,” said Winfrey…Steven Spielberg said of his science fiction anthology series, Amazing Stories, “We want to transport the audience with every single episode.”…And as for Jennifer Aniston’s behind-the-scenes drama The Morning Show, her first TV role since Friends, “I’m really excited about it,” said the actress.
Apple is also updating its TV app, adding access to cable and streaming services, rolling out as a software update in May. And Apple News+ will offer access to over 300 magazine and digital subs, including People, Rolling Stone and the Wall Street Journal for $10/month.
